You picked it...? Seems odd for a Telvanni. Why didn't you just force a guy out of his Wickwheat or buy it? And it's not like the Telvanni enjoy nature. Look at the location of their strongholds.

That would be true, for a Telvanni Lord, but like I said, I've only just attained the rank of Mouth, and at the time I was still an Oathman/Lawman. You're right, but who do you think the Telvanni Lords get to gather all their ingredients for them? I seem to recall many of the early Telvanni quests being just that, acquiring certain ingredients (e.g. Muck and Sload Soap) or running errands and deliveries.

What about them? I distinctly remember being asked as a lowly Telvanni Hireling to gather Muck. Besides, maybe the wealthy members of the Telvanni Council can afford slaves, a simple up-and-coming Oathman cannot afford such luxury. If he wants ingredients, he has to acquire them himself does he not?

such lowly labor is not for the hands of an aspiring, up and coming arch magister. That is why the dwemer devised constructs so shock centurion guards serve the same purpose.

That's why you backstab first.

I fail to see how backstabbing anyone will get me my Wickwheat :?

The thing is, it's my firm belief that the Telvanni Lords become the way they are after years of the lavish lifestyles they lead. We see Aryon, the youngest of the lot, and the most open and, generally speaking, down to earth. Then we see Master Neloth, who is so old he sees a woman over 200 years old as a child, and his character. I doubt he started out the way we see him in-game Morrowind, but perhaps the power got to his head.

Also, if you want to continue this conversation, because I actually think it's a good one, maybe we should move to the House Telvanni thread?

Well, you backstab to get ranked up more, which allows you to ask Oathmen to gather ingredients for you. I guess it's my point of view.

It is probably true. I wonder, what happens when a Telvanni has to choose between giving up his luxury and letting Hlaalu scum invade his land?

Well guess what I did? I made another character who has a certain affinity of sorts to creatures.

Maybe, maybe not, I don't necessarily agree with the conception that House Telvanni is centred on backstabbing and plays for power in that regard, but it's an academic point. As with the other Great Houses, advancement comes with connections within the House, so I don't see backstabbing someone like Aryon as doing much to help me unless I'm doing it for someone else of stature within the House. Cultivating relationships will do you more good, IMO.

Plus, in-game, no matter how highly ranked you are, you can't actually ask someone to pick your ingredients for you, and everything else aside, that was all I wanted, hundreds of samples of ingredients for potions, without spending a fortune on them.

I don't understand what you mean by the last bit though :? Care to explain? If anything, at the time of Morrowind, it's House Telvanni that is expanding into land holdings that have not traditionally been their claim, as demonstrated by Tel Uvirith's construction at Uvirith's Grave.

Duruza, pointing to the construction of a stronghold as "evidence" of expansionism for any of the houses is an illegitimate argument since that option is available to the player no matter what great house they join.

as far as backstabbing being policy among the telvanni, from ...

Lore:The Affairs of Wizards
by Turedus Talanian

"Promotion in the ranks of House Telvanni, however, is very difficult for outsiders. Most disconcerting for some potential candidates is House Telvanni's casual acceptance of murder and assassination of rivals as a means to advancement. Those reluctant to prove their worthiness by killing off the competition, and those uncomfortable about competing in such a ruthless atmosphere, might better employ their time and efforts in the Mages Guild."

I beg to differ most profusely, as Tel Uvirith completes the circle around the Grazelands and marks the Telvanni's expansion into the Molag Amur region, traditionally Temple lands, thus solidifying their new holdings in the Grazelands and making way for further expansion. Tel Uvirith may be a player stronghold, but it is built no mater which path the PC takes, even when they are not a Telvanni, and is thus canon.

Further, I don't think my view is unique or unreasonable:
The UESP wrote:
In comparison with the other two strongholds accessible in the game, Tel Uvirith fully demonstrates the arrogant expansionism of House Telvanni. While Indarys Manor (the Redoran stronghold) is located on the site of Bal Isra, right between Ald'ruhn and Maar Gan (thus in the Redoran heartland), and Rethan Manor (the Hlaalu stronghold) is on the Odai Plateau just south of Balmora (also in the heartland of its House), Tel Uvirith is a direct expansion into territory which has had no affiliation with the Telvanni. Like Tel Vos, which can be taken as a sign of imminent Telvanni occupation of the Grazelands, Tel Uvirith shows surprising signs of the House planning to incorporate the northeastern part of Molag Amur into their domain as well. Upon construction of Tel Uvirith, the Telvanni heartland of the Zafirbel Bay is more or less completely surrounded by strongholds, making them better organized than the scattered Redoran and Hlaalu strongholds, whose domains are woven into Temple and Imperial domains.

Also, I'd point out that I think those words are oft misinterpreted. Backstabbing is turning on a friend, murder is not necessarily backstabbing, and I see it that in any House, even House Telvanni, you need to cultivate relationships, and if that involves killing a few people in order to strengthen the bonds, then so be it. I disagree with the choice of backstabbing, and the connotation it holds, 'tis all. Also, I'm taking this discussion to the Telvanni thread.

Helped Penemic the "Honest" trader. Took a short nap in the hills. Woke up to the blade of the Brotherhood. Started running away only to be killed by a cliff racer.

Ah, thank you :)
I'm rolling random chars and playing one life. Dashee was a level 1 Argonian with a horrible mish mash of skills. Conjuration, athletics and axemanship were his only non-redundant combat skills. :S

So today I arrived in a strange land, talked to a bald guy, signed a few papers and got harassed by a little elf.

Ah... random character. Explains everything  .

Did the elf mention a ring of any sorts? 'Cause don't tell him that I stole it.

I discovered that my default setting for my 'better bodies' mod is straight up nakedness. I haven't played for some time and is the first time I've used mods. Sure did get a surprise when I looted that dude who fell from the sky.

I continued to try and map every single place in Vvardenfell spending most time in the ashlands today, the cliff racers are being as friendly as they normally are.

Hahaha fasteddie, I ran into the same problem the first time I bumped into Hlormar...

Also, I was trying to get my girlfriend into Morrowind but she didn't like the graphics, so I got the Morrowind Overhaul Mod. When I loaded my female bosmer character the first time, for some reason all of her clothes were in her inventory and I had to explain why I was looking at Morrowind prono.

I'm sure she won't approve of the things Crassus Curio puts you through if you are in House Hlallu. Would be good for the lulz though.

Starting the Main Quest up to the 4th and 5th Trials really saw my Racer count grow exponentially with all the roaming around the Ashlands it saw me do, while early on my Scrib count was much larger than my Racer count due to all the time I was spending on the Bitter Coast.

Well, on the character I started before vacation, he was level 3, but had killed about 20 scribs and a goddamn 50 Cliff Racers. You won't believe how many start showing up when I build a pillow fort in the Ashlands and Azuras Coast Region

Today I went into a scary necromancer cave filled with daedra and sorcerers. I killed quite a few of them including a daedroth which is a little tough at my level...Before killing one of the mages she shouted "Soon you'll be nothing more than a bad memory!" proceeded to a tomb area and found a Daedric face of inspiration amongst other things :)

I also did a small quest in Vivec's plaza and then walked around the Ascadian Isles fields to pick some flowers and roots for potions :)
