[Spoilers] Question about floating rocks

Tue Jan 20, 2015 6:12 am

Main quest spoilers ahead!

Spoiler:
Is it just me or is this strange patch of floating rocks actually the lower layer of rocks from the colored rooms that you get teleported to immediately after the fight with Molag Bal?

I'd figure it would be in a different cell or a different instance but you never know. They may have very well also simply reused the assets and didn't figure anyone would look up during that part of the Quest.

Oh, in regard to your other question from last night and I found a list of Ehlnofex words on the wiki, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Ayleidoon and from what it looks like, Meridia actually pronounces Molag Bal's translated name backwards, though there may be special grammar rules that go along with Ehlnofex in regard to naming conventions, like the way that many Asian languages like Chinese and Korean use their surname first which gets confused in western media constantly.

Molag is Ehlnofex/Ayleidoon for Fire, Bal is stone. Dunmeris, outside of the words that are residually held over from Ehlnofex and Ayleidoon, seems to be very closely based on the Akkadian language spoken in Babylon and Ur during the very early phases of recorded history which in reality still has a very pronounced impact on the Iraqi Arabic dialect nowadays, as well as Assyrian and Chaldean, which are minority languages in Iraq but are even closer to the old language than the Arabic variant is.

You see it quite a bit in Morrowind as many of the names in Vvardenfell, especially the names of Daedric and Dwemer ruins, are pretty much straight up Akkadian words from two of the major Akkadian dialects (I don't recall which exactly, though I'm fairly certain the Dwemer language is probably closer to Neo-Babylonian since it uses the "Z" sound often which wasn't used in Old Akkadian IIRC), which is a tradition which continues to be used up to and including in ESO for the names of Dwemer ruins.

Yep, it's probably the same place. That seems to happen a lot in ESO. For example, house interiors are usually located beneath the ground, and you can see the city above sometimes when the objects don't load. It's a bit weird for the Colored Rooms to have a loading screen if it's in the same cell, though.
