I am unsure if you could but if you manage, more power to you.
I liked my magical street performer, and the scene with the sick kid.. Oh good.

Hai gais. Long time no see.

I had an idea a few weeks back; to bring something new to the subforum as an experiment and a fanwork venture. I know a lot of us play and love Dragon Age: Origins, and such an epic story deserves a novelization. What I have in mind is a collaborative effort to bring this into reality:

Dragon Age: The Play. Every participant would slip into the role of one of the major characters, I would serve as the narrator/minor characters and as such we would both roleplay and bookify DA:O. However, as I was rolling that idea around in my head I had the thought that some people would not like to be confined to writing a pre-existant character, so I present an alternative:

Dragon Age: Unsung Heroes. In this rendition of the story all of the Origins are canon; every possible Warden was recruited by Duncan. History however, remembers only one. Ya catch my drift?

So, recap:

Option 1: "Auditions" will be held for major characters (followers and important, recurring characters) and the story is written out more or less as it transpires in the game.

Option 2: Players submit their favourite Wardens, the best are picked and the adventure begins. However, things will not go quite as they did in the game, though the events will mirror the ones in the game.

Let me know which version (if any) you prefer so that I can start figuring out the details! :D

edit: also, Unionhack, if you want me to hold off until your own DA RP is done, I'll do so of course.

I wouldn't mind if you wanted to do it now. I don't know how long Forgotten Wardens will last, and I really like your idea. I am really interested in playing Alistair. c:

If I knew anything about Dragon Age, I'd say audition. But that's not always very telling, since people lose interest so quickly around here...

Speaking of, what's the perfect length for an RP for you guys? I'm trying to plan the spacing on my RP. I would love to do a semi-long one but I've seen the way you guys drop out of RPs like flies, and that would make me much too angry. :P So what's the perfect length? Musicman said 1-3 months; I myself find that a bit tough, but I'm of the old school RP variety who could sit through one campaign for months and months and months.

Thoughts?

I think it depends on the kind of RP it is and how quick you as a DM are to reply. Most people drop because they only log on once or twice a week and don't want to have to read through the ten to twenty pages that were written while they were gone. If you don't respond until everyone posts you may keep most of your players.

On the other hand, go too slow and people may lose interest.

Of course you'll almost always have people with no other hobbies except RPs who will find ways to bring their characters together and post pages of character development with each other, no matter how slowly the story goes.

I don't think you can win...

There isn't really a perfect length for me. My history of dropping out has more to do with the fact that I'm terrible at committing to long-term things and that my life alternates from "nothing to do" to "too busy to eat and sleep".

But I guess that as long as the pacing and the characters keep me interested long enough I could go on with an RP forever. Tamrielic Adventures is approaching its 2nd anniversary >_>

Length doesn't really matter to me, as long as it's still interesting and doesn't ever jump the literary shark or anything. Some short ones are pretty fun, same with the long ones.

If I had to choose, I'd prefer the long-term ones where you have more time to develop your character. Those always seem more fun.

Um, Mars? Tamrielic Adventures has been locked in the archives since December. :|

I'm on my phone, so I can't tell if that's a redirect or not, but it shows up in the Roleplays (old) archive.

Either way, an RP that is still "active" whose last post was Dec. 20 (2 months ago) would be frustrating to me.

It doesn't seem locked to me. The post reply button still works.

Yeah, 2 months is a while, but I've seen longer hiatuses. Forgotten Wardens was down for a lengthy amount of time as well.

In terms of length of an RP I think it would be unfair to expect people to stay commited for extended periods of time (such as two years). In two years I'll be half way through my first year in college and since my parents have promised to at the very least help me pay for accommodation in town I could see my self with a lot less time to RP, thus I definitely would not sign up for an RP that would go on that long.

I think that it is unfair to expect your players to stay fully commited to an RP of anything over a year to be honest (especially the RP's that add several pages a day.) People's commitments are going to change over the course of a year and to expect everyone to pour in the sane amount if time and dedication to an RP (especially when others aren't either) well let's just say it won't happen.

Though I think the real deciding factor of how long people will stick to a long RP is how often a DM posts (You need to find a good medium here, not too much, not too little), the quality of said posts and if the storyline/other characters are interesting. I myself would prefer an RP that goes on 6months to a year but only if I knew that I wasn't going to have to post a dozen times a day in order to keep up, RoF was nice because I only had to post once a day and I always got a great reply from the DM, an RP like that is what I'd prefer over one that has quickfire DM replies that consist of a line of dialogue and/or action.

Actually if you want to know what RP I thought was perfectly paced it would be Cog and Gear, DM was on a few hours a night. During the weekdays character development and preparing for the next event in the RP would take place as well as some of the smaller subquests and every weekend a new development would happen in the story.

Yeah I'm probably guilty of this though in my defense every RP I seem to be in is mostly made up of these types of players and I'd hate to keep then waiting.

Yeah, it is pretty much a hiatus. I've taken a hiatus from RPs in general, but I plan on changing that with the upcoming DA RP and something else that isn't going to be announced just yet (though everyone can probably guess what it is).

My birthday is in April, so this RP sure as hell better be good. Or else.

My RPs are always good. They just tend to die young.

Well if life gets in the way it gets in the way - that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people who sign up for a RP and then ignore it to go and play with other ones. It's only annoying because characters make relationships with one another, and when they're gone it's difficult to continue and be loyal to the character you created.

My RP will involve some unique opportunities for people if they roll their backgrounds right, so maybe I can avoid that. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Somewhere between 2 and 5 months is a good length. It depends on the RP really. There can be hiatus too. For example The Next Group had a fairly long hiatus but most players were happy to go back to it. My advice for RPs is actually have an ending. Even better if you let the player write their character's epilogues afterwards. Endings are important.

Oh, and it is technically a continuation, so it doesn't technically need my approval, but I did approve it anyways.

And, YO, everyone! Checkit out! This is the RP of RPs, people.

Man, am I heavily debating joining that.

I just can't wait for TSO to start that Steampunk thing up. I've been watching lots of Last Exile and I'm in a total Steampunk mood.
