Having delved in several of these areas now, I am still none the wiser.

All the odds and sods that you find, e.g. Dwemer Gears, Struts, Convectors etc., what exactly can you do with them?

Going on the general rule of weight to cost ratio, some of the oddly shaped items are actually well priced and could be worth selling to raise gold, that is if nothing else can be done with them.

So can anyone give me a heads up?

Some of the chunkier pieces of scrap can be smelted into dwarven metal ingots, and dwemer convectors are for a quest.

^ :D Raiding Dwemer Ruins and then crafting an absolute shed-load of Dwarven Bows from the Ingots is my primary way (along with a bit of jewellery making) to level Smithing from 30 onwards. The bows themselves are good weapons on the lower levels as well.

Also if you have DawnGuard installed you can make hundreds, if not thousands, of your own Dwarven Arrows.

(Requires Dwarven Smithing perk though.)

Ah! Now I understand.

So you take the scrap bits to a smelter then? Obviously I have to up my anti on the smithing and get some iron daggers made!

As for the Dwemer Convectors, I think I've picked a few up, or did I leave the behind? Might have to retrace and go find them.

The bent dwemer scrap metal, large decorative dwemer strut, large dwemer plate metal, large dwemer strut, solid dwemer metal, and small dwemer plate metal can all be smelted into ingots. Depending on the size of the ruin, the carry weight of all of that can be considerably high, so a follower is helpful as a pack mule. You can end up with a CRAP ton of dwarven ingots that you can either sell to a smith or, better yet, create a bunch of dwarven bows (perk required of course). This will grant quite a lot of smithing XP, and plus you can sell the bows for mega cash. Additionally, the centurion dynamo cores that you sometimes find are used at the Atronach Forge to create various items, but have no use beyond that other than selling or decoration. You probably weren't asking about dwarven oil, but it is fairly useful for alchemy and can also be used to create oil spiders on Solstheim. These little guys are pretty nifty if you use them properly.
