I have killed the first two guardians, but everytime I go to kill the third,, the game craps out on me, shuts down, and returns to the Steam page. Running Windows 10.

I do have the following Dawnstart patches/mods installed (with the Skyrim patches, of course)

* Climates of Tamriel (Dawnguard)
* Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition patch
* Pure waters
* Sky UI

I have others, but none that are Dawnguard related.

I've seen where others had this issue, but nowhere did it give the console command for killing the third guardian.

Does anyone know the code, or what could be causing the crashing? It's happened five times already, and I'm getting slightly perturbed.

OK, after continuous digging, I found the console code that enabled me to "finish" the portion of the quest (i.e. killing the third guardian).

The code is:

setstage DLC1VQ05 40

The game noted I had killed two guardians but now I could go meet the Vampire Mom (Valerica?), fight the dragon, etc. I was then able to continue the game.

Thank you for posting that console command, in case I ever run into that issue!

I probably should have run LOOT and TES5Edit to fix issues before I started playing with the expansion packs and Mods. If you haven't I recommend doing so.

I haven't ever played any TES games with mods, just the plain vanilla games with any official updates and DLC released by Bethesda.

But one of these days I'm bound to start checking out some of the many mods available.

In fact, Skyrim: Special Edition (or whatever it's called) is sort of an odd beast as far as mods are concerned, since Bethesda advertises player-made mods in the top right-hand corner of the main menu screen, which to my mind puts those mods in a gray area between "official Bethesda mods" and "unofficial third-party mods"-- I suppose they'd be called "official Bethesda-endorsed third-party mods"!

There are some really good ones out there, including ones that help organize inventory, tell you which books you haven't yet read (they glow blue), etc. Lots of people doing lots of good work. Definitely you should install the patches, they fix a lot of the issues Bethesda wouldn't/couldn't get to.
