When you look at them side by side it really does look like Roman/English letters

Could it be a substitution cipher?

E is the most used letter in the english language, so if we say that T = E and the original groupings form words

Why would T=E? I don't get it.

E is the most used letter in the English language. T is the most used letter in these letters.

When starting a substitution cipher you almost always try out E as the most used letter.

It is not a reverse-alphabet cipher or a caesar substitution cipher

This is becoming a big topic ,wiki forums are all going crazy on this new bug jar rune find.
Some interesting theories from the reddit.com skyrim forum though.

From what I can tell these aren't runes. There are symbols on the lids that do not match any runes. Like the Z, or the W, or the g. None of those have corresponding runes.

Also, Bethesda throwing something from Full Metal Alchemist in their game is ridiculous.

Also, LOL at anyone who fell for the "delete saves and jump (dive) off Dive Rock" Oblivion troll...You deserved it!

However, if this whole conspiracy is one giant troll, i must applaud the originator, for they have truly excelled themselves in the field of epic trolling....

my feeling is that if it is not an easter egg or red herring, it is probably a list of english characters which can be figured out without too much hastle or juxtaposition

imo it's dev initials and nicknames, maybe it's an in-joke, bugs in a jar might allude to creatures imprisoned (maybe the toil involved in making the game) where they could be flying free (or something)

but it is quickly turning into an amazing advert for the game at Christmas time

I don't understand. Supposedly, if true, we have to either just be playing the game this Sunday, or do we need to have done something more?

Wow you guys are crazy dedicated. I feel like I'm reading live updates from a bunch of theorists trying to uncover the meaning from some hidden runes they found in some long lost cave lol. Pretty neat actually.

Personally I believe there is a simple explanation like those runes being used by whoever captured those insects in the jar as a sort of marking like a date or identification. Not some sort of map made by Bethesda. They're also found in random places it seems, as decoration. Not put up on a pedestal or have any mention/hint that there is of some importance to it. If Bethesda wanted it to be a huge deal/easter egg, I think they would've placed more clues and put more attention to it in the game.

Frankly, how did anyone figure out to "shout" at the giant ball thing in Blackreach? Surely 0.0000000001% of people are randomly shouting at things hoping something will happen. Was it in a book/journal?

Uno, just because you don't want to think that this is true, don't act like you know everything about the subject. Let people think what they want.

Ok, so there is angle that may have been missed.
The rolling stones once did a Waylon Jennings song on stage "Waylon Stones"
the song is "Bob Wills is Still the King"
In a game that has a civil war and a dead king as a central theme, it could have some significance.

Heck, in a conspiracy involving freaking bug jars? don't rule anything out.

This whole thing reminds me of The Secret of Alchamist Dar

I look at those letters, and think someone with more time might consider this:
perhaps the M+ is the key. it tells you that M=A. then after translating the cryptogram, use an anagram decoder. Since we don't know the order of the letters, or even which side is up- assume that a symbom = a letter and solve the code both ways.

Cryptograms can be rediculouly complex, and game designers are by default geeks. They love this stuff.

oh, and there is that spell that turns iron into silver into gold. "transmute" it might be involved somehow. It seems like a strange spell to be put into the game.

This escapist article is worth a read: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... Conspiracy

Note that bethesda have no comment on the matter. Are they hiding something or just fueling the fan-fiction?

First of all, why are the bugs there in the first place? Why would anyone put a bug in the middle of random locations?

Seceondly, what are the runes on the underside of the lid of the jars? It's not dragon language, or falmer. Could it be daedric?

EDIT: Someone aledgdly translated it: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments ... _bug_jars/

EDIT: 'Another thing dawned on me while I was exploring Blackreach for a completely unrelated reason. Recalling this theory, I decided to check out if there was anything interesting in Blackreach "beneath" the Weynon Stones. Guess what just happened to be there?

The Star that summons the Dragon. The Hall of Ruminations. That entire city/area is located right beneath the Weynon Stones.' -DealerUmbra, Reddit user

Also, check out this map: http://images.uesp.net/9/95/Blackreachoverlay.jpg

EDIT: Another picture. This one was taken right underneath the area where the weynon stones are located, in Blackreach. There is also a pillar at this location, which isn't shown in the picture. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/63073 ... BF1460C95/

http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/63073 ... 81E83A7A8/ This picture is a picture of the map of skyrim at that exact position.

EDIT: This is also worth checking out http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments ... rs/c39wpky

EDIT: Also this http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 5&start=30

EDIT: Looking back, the whole idea that bugs in jars being related to the apocalypse seems stupid. I bet the runes are something like where the bug where caught.

Also, did anyone notice that the giant stone head at Weynon Stones appears on the loading screen?

Does the giant head appear at any other Shrine of Talos?

IMO adds weight to the theory that there is 'more than meets the eye' to these Weynon Stones

If anything was actually designed to happen with those jars, it would have been found in the data files and put up on the wiki by now.

Priory to this post I had no knowledge of Weynon.

ok now this is what they mean...
you first start at frostflow light house and on top of the fireplace you see a torchbug in a jar and under the stopper are the letters 'zwkt' now in alphabetic numbers they all = 80 now add those to together(8+0) and you get 8 so 8 = H and half of 8 is 4and that is D and 80 = 26x3+2=2 which is Band that means go to a place with an HDB AKA dushnikh yal in burguks longhouse and in there you find a dragonfly in a jar :!: :?: and on that stopper you see 'jwt' = 53, 5=E 3=C alchemist has those words so add those two together and you get H and the i in alchemist is near the H just like how alchemist shack is near ivarstead and there we find a butterfly in a jar with pig carved on it so P+I=25, 2=B, 5=E so 2+5=7 which is G so we have BEG...there is a BEdroom in GoldEnGlow EstatE :!: :!: :!: now lets put the G in which in total is 33 so 3x3=9 which is I so that mean arIgoths bedroom in the goldenglow estate and there you find a be in a jar with DAT so lets just put the D to the side for now so A+T=21 which is U so D+A+T=25, 2+5=7 and 7=G and that leads to duskglow crevice and deep inside duskglow is a moth in a jar with MT on it so M+T=33, 3+3=6 which is F also 3x3 is 9 and 9 is I...wait a minute FI...fireplace wasnt there a fireplace back where we started OH MY GOD :!: ITS A CONSPIRACY :!: :!: :!: P.S hope this helped
