Hints:
-Two lines in the riddle are pure meta.
-Father and Mother?Why would you pray to them?

I'm going to have a lot of work on my hands this week so I'm not going to be on that often.With that in mind...

Big Hints:
-The first line in the quote refers to a particular deity.To find which one it is you will have to understand the second line.If you do both of these things you'll end up an inch away from solving the riddle.

-Again,why would you pray to your Father and Mother?

Why didn't I see this sooner... does it hold relation to Akatosh? The deity in question is indeed older than Dragons>_> though to be fair his 'change' from Anuiel occurred before the Dunmer

The answer itself is not one of the Aedras but the second line in my quote (To your Father and Mother) does refer to them.

As I've stated above he is involved somewhat in the riddle but not more so then his peers.

I follow the "Rule/Law of Three" so you'll never get a riddle from me that results in the Dragonborn being the answer.

Hints:The biggest trap in the riddle is by far this segment "Far older then the dragon"/"But younger then a Dunmer".Try looking at it from a meta perspective.

I can guess whats older than dragons but 'Younger than a dunmer'?

Whats younger than a dunmer, im assuming it's an elf, or ...Is it a breton? Are bretons younger than dunmers?

There was life before dragons, but for new borns etc. it's younger than a Dunmer
Weak, mad and careless people might experience life as a punishment (a bit of a stretch)
pray to mother and father: they give life
As long as you're alive, your spirit can't travel to Aetherius
In some cases it's possible to travel to Aetherius and back

To be completely honest, this riddle is the result of a ten minute coffee break so it's not as difficult and lore heavy as i wanted it to be.Still,long time fans of the series will definitely have an easier time solving it.
~Stay away from the Daedra.They do not hold the answer you seek. Or... do they?
~The answer can be found on Solstheim...but knowing this fact won't bring you any closer to it.
~Go to the kitchen and grab a lemon.It will help you find the hints.If you don't have any you should ask Elenath.I hear he* has some to spare (possibly just silliness?) {*also, I'm actually a she}

To the far reaches of the land Confirmed to refer to caves and the Reach. "So it reaches... far..." also may be significant.
I punish the careless "Adventurers/Treasure Hunters" was highlighted as part of an analysis.
But that was not always the case "you've changed over time" also highlighted.

But younger than a dunmer These lines should be looked at from a meta perspective.
"Pray Mortal for salvation!" Refers to the Aedras.

Forget Alduin, It's a disease, isn't it? Alive, but not in the way we expect, found in caves and the Reach, punishing to "careless" adventurers who aren't immune, you pray to the Aedra for healing. The dragon would be Peryite, then. Dunmer have been around since Arena, but Peryite, maybe not. If disease was introduced between those two... "Older than the dragon but younger than a Dunmer".

I feel that the "older than a dragon/younger than a dunmer" part is referring to something older than skyrim, but younger than Morrowind.

You are correct the answer is a disease and even though you didn't mention which one it is I'm going to give it to you because you've done a fantastic job of analyzing the riddle/hints.The answer is...brain rot!

Great riddle, Mefris! I really enjoy the ones that I can analyse.

I actually guessed the connection between Aetherius and magika, but I couldn't remember which disease drained magika and I wasn't certain enough of that connection to go look it up.

I'll go figure out a riddle now.
