indeed! in oblivion there were more lightarmor versions; chainmail, mithril i miss this also liked the orcish armor better.
but the armor in skyrim is way more detailed wich we all like i think :P

I have to agree with this. Skyrim's high level light armours were horrible. Only good ones were Full-body Fur, and Elven. Of course, Oblivion's Glass armour did look silly.

I also miss Oblivion's Ebony Armour. I always preferred the simpler shape and yellowish colouration.

The female version of the vanilla set leaves alot exposed, and vital areas too, you could easily hit the heart or lungs with one well placed swing or arrow.

Completely agreed, but the question was for the most beautiful/cool armor, not the most practical/realistic one.

I like pretty much all the armor sets in different ways (the it-depends-on-the-character answer :P ), but overall, I think Nightingale and Glass are my favorites.

Agreed. I loved the style of Oblivion's ebony.

However, I also liked the Skyrim version: the little silver details are very nice. I always think ebony armor is incredibly stylish, and so, my warrior characters always end up wearing it.

I do also really like the armors added by the Immersive Armors mod by hothtrooper44. I typically avoid mods that add things to the game because they are never realistic or plausible for Tamriel, but this modder did an exceptional job, in my opinion, and it adds a great deal of variety, too!

In Skyrim, my favorite couple of armors for my male Nord is Glass (especially as a vampire, seems to really fit); also Nightingale..I give myself a Batman-voice (Christian Bale), with a Germanic-accent, while wearing it.

From Oblivion, I really miss the Crusader's Armor.

I done gone and fell in love with the Orcish armor for my Orc. At first, I only used it occasionally and was still wearing furs primarily. Then I really started liking the way it looks on him. I don't have a complete matching set yet and I don't know if I'll be interested in having him wear the helmet. He wears a circlet right now. But I really like the look of it on him.

I still like the Ancient Nord helmet when he decides to add a little more protection. It doesn't completely cover his face so his tusks are still visible while wearing it. Plus the horns on it just scream "you don't want none of this!" Though I often think that helmet must really stink of death and decay considering where it came from.

Dragonplate, hands down. The bone slapped over pieces of ebony is cool, and I just love the idea of wearing a dragons bones into combat. It is the Dragonborn armor, and that fact that no other characters wear it save for the gatekeepers( or whatever they're called, on my phone and not about to open a second window).

And they appear once so that will never really happen in the game. Plus many gripe about the helmet, but honestly I think its the coolest helmet in the game, and that it does fit with the rest of the set.

Agreed, the ebony armour is one of the best looking heavy armour vanilla sets. One downside in my humble opinion; the preshaped boobs on the female armour. Not very realistic.

I really strongly dislike Skyrim's Ebony. It's such an odd shape, it looks really big and ugly, and wearing it without a helmet looks strange (with a helmet it just looks silly).

Grandmaster thieves guild or blackguard armors are nice, also nightingale obviously.

My favorite character ended up wearing master robes with the shrouded hood (not the cowl which is ugly) and the shrouded hand wraps with some enchanted non armor boots. Its a good looking combo.

All around though alot of skyrims armor is hideous, glass looks daft and bulky same elven.... actually some of the female versions look better as they look more fitted, alot of male versions of the armors look too bulky and stupid.

In vanilla Skyrim I'm mostly a fan of the Nightingale armor for light or the Ebony for heavy, anything that looks nice and black because my characters are always assassins and thieves so I gravitate towards that kind of gear.

My characters usually wear modded armor though so for that I say Immersive Armors all the way, even though I haven't seen all of the armor sets yet. From what I have seen, everything fits in nicely and I mistake a lot of it for vanilla armor until I kill the person wearing it and check out the name.

You are one of the few people I know that doesn't like Ebony.

Ah, yes, TES isn't too well known for realistic female armors...or even male armors, in some cases. Not that I'll get off on that topic again, but hang out with the Forsworn. How do they even live? :P

Well, if anyone wants to get nitpicky, fashioning breasts into a female character's armor is an invitation to a fractured sternum. Think about it: a V-shaped piece of metal poised just above the center of the rib cage, pushed straight in if the girl does so much as a face-plant.

My first choice is Glass minus the helmet. I'm a sucker for shiny stuff and it fits khajiit very well. Wearing a basic enchanted hood with it looks great and it fits mages, rogues, and warriors equally unlike Deadric which looks more like it's made for emo warriors.

My second would be Dragonhide/Scale

And third would be Miraaks robes probably.

My least favorite is Ebony as it's just way too gothic looking for me.

The magic armors are the coolest, as they weigh nothing and can protect you from quite a lot.

If we're going purely visual I would say Daedric (Skyrim, since this is the Skyrim General sub-forum, right?).

I actually changed my mind after loading up my file a few minutes ago, Stahlrim (spelling) is probably my favorite, then glass, and then Dragon.

Magic armors are great but I just hate recasting them all the time, if they were a toggle option or something I would love them.

I'm sure someone who knows more about lore will correct me if I'm wrong, however I'm fairly certain Ebony Armor is, traditionally worn by Dunmer nobility and high ranking officers. Generally associated with successful/important people due to its relative rarity and the skill required to work it. This of course suggests style and ornament would be taken into consideration in the making, even though it's effective armor, I'd imagine the functionality would be slightly less important than the appearance (Generally the people wearing it wouldn't be in the front lines or heavily involved in combat).

Going to go ahead and recommend this lovely mod that adds cloaks. They look great (and perhaps explain how some people stay warm ;)). They don't go against the lore and they're not overpowered in any way unless you choose to abuse them as an extra enchanting slot. I consider that free choice though.

For vanilla I do not really have a favorite, they all have flaws of one kind or another, generally its the helmets being ugly for me. That being said I would have to say for the Light variants I like Nightingale, Imperial Studded, and Glass in that order. Heavy armor, which I rarely use I would have to say Nordic Carved, Blades, and Steel.

Modded on the other hand there are several sets i like and use a lot. To make the vanilla armors more appealing I use aMidianBorn Book of Silence for better meshes, they look great. Then on top of that I use Remodeled Armor for CBBE Bodyslide for the sexy females. To answer my dislike of the vanilla helms I use Johnskyrims HD Armored Circlets to get full benefit from perks. Stand alone sets I use are Silverlight and Lady Templar.
