dwemer theory *spoilers*

Mon Jul 09, 2012 5:52 am

just finished the lost to the ages quest added with the dawnguard expansion. at the end you get 3 choices of things to craft from the atherium, i saved befor and had a look at all three. When i was using the staff i noticed that when u summon the automatons they seem to appear through time if anyone gets what i mean. It looks just like the time wound upon the throat of the world. Just wanted to see if anyone else noticed because like others i really wanna know what happened to the dwemer.

According to lore, all of the Dwemer on Tamriel disappeared and/or disintegrated into ash. (See: Tribunal, Morrowind) This happened when the tools of Lorkhan were made.

Dont you mean it happened when they were Used ? not when they were made ?

I think they tried to escape Mundas by fusing into their god, the Brass Tower, i.e. Numidium.

Br3admax has the right of it.

The currently most accepted theory, the one that Bethesda seemingly confirmed in Skyrim, is that the entirety of the Dwemer race, except Yagrum, were fused into their giant god robot Numidium, and became its brass skin.

Numidium was destroyed by The Underking, although he had destroyed it before and The Empire rebuilt it.

Re: dwemer theory *spoilers*

The Numidium is also currently not physically present on Nirn. Its whereabouts is unknown.

Actually it is both on Nirn and not.

There is a time-echo version of the Numidium, from when Tiber turned it on, still fighting the Altmer time-mages in the siege of Alinor, something it will continue to do well into the 5th era.

And there is the actual Numidium whose body was destroyed somewhere in the Illiac bay area, and whose pieces are presumably somewhere in that area still.

Time to ask MK, his word is law, and he writes Elder Scrolls.

I wish there was a jpeg of Talos doing a facepalm, because I'd have posted that just now.

^ That guy is too busy directly quoting MK's forum posts to facepalm. ;)

MK is a menace. It seems to me like it's almost reached the point where, when there's multiple theories on a certain subject, and MK appears to confirm one of them, you can wager that Bethie's official direction will not be that.

Re: dwemer theory *spoilers*

Bethesda has yet to take an official stance on anything that contradicts MK, if anything, they have gotten ever increasingly more supportive of his theories.

Well, IIRC The Greybeards say the dragonborn's arrival coincides with the turning of the era.

The 5th era may well be upon us soon, so Numidium may stop.

the Aetherium forge makes an item which summons a dwemer robot, a crown which uses magic powers more efficiently in allowing you to store two stone powers at once. Both of these are skills/abilities we know the dwemer had

the shield tho is a bit of a mystery to me, the idea that you strike an enemy and make them ethereal is a new power for the dwemer to have. It got me thinking that perhaps they were experimenting with the etherial and perhaps this is what happened to them

There could also be other Dwemer like Yagrum that weren't on Nirn at the time of the disappearance who just haven't come back yet.

Isn't it the quest in the college of winterhold when one of the mages tried to recreate the dissapearance of the dwemer using keening and a charged corrupted soul gem to replicate the heart. The first two strikes it does nothing, and on the third when he REALLY hits it, there's a blinding flash of light and he disappears without trace. The explaination given is the fact that the power in the corrupted soul gem was only enough to "transport" or kill or whatever happens, that one mage, whereas something the size and power of the heart of Lorkhan could wipe out the entire race.

maybe the black soul gem traps him as well, cos the dwemer are able to squeeze twice the magic into a small space (see aetherium crown)

i need to do that quest

No explanation is given at all for Aurinel's Endeavor, especially not "it could only transport or kill him".

The explanation, if any, that was given was that it causes people to become bound to the closest divine source. In the mages case it was you, the closest peron with divine blood, in the Dwemer's case it would be the god-machine Numidium.

Wow, that actually makes a lot of sense. That would explain why you gain the ability to summon Aurinel.

dose he leave behind a pile of ashes ?

thats a big piece of forensic evidence from TES3 (imo the falmer got rid of the skyrim ashes in a huge spring clean)

No ashes, he disappears entirely without trace, leaving the gem and keening clattering to the floor.

hmmm

whilst i would love the dwemer to return or some crazy snow elf invade tamreil with a horde of automatons (like hellboy golden army), i think they are far more fun as a mystery - in fact, i would say the dwemer are the most culturally distinctive race in the game

Re: dwemer theory *spoilers*

the Dwemer are a massive plot device and will make no overt appearances in any future installment of TES. the "truth" of what happened to them is, and will always be, purposely vague, as the best "fluff" is always vague "fluff."

this isn't my wish at all, and it would be nice if I end up being wrong.

that's my 0.02 Septims
