I've always been an Xbox gamer, from Morrowind on up, but I came to the realization that the only rationale I have for purchasing and Xbox1 would be for Bethesda games (Both TES and Fallout). Sooo I bit the bullet and purchased the giant Elder Scrolls Anthology that includes literally everything. It even comes with maps that I'm probably not allowed to hang up in my house.

My problem is that I'm absolutely terrible with PC game controls. I nearly got killed by a rat in the opening sewer of Oblivion because I was busy spinning in a circle.

My long-winded question is this: Can anybody tell me what sort, if any, of the USB controllers will work with Morrowind and/or Oblivion and/or Skyrim? I'm okay with pretty much anything, as long as it's a.) like a controller, and b.) not like a keyboard, and c.) less expensive than an entire gaming console.

Thanks for reading, sorry I'm needy...

Arena, daggerfall, Morrowind not a clue, Oblivion it can be done but its a faff, see mid way down this page - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Controls, Skyrim automatically detects and runs with a Xbox 360 controller, don't know for an original xbox controller.

I've got a Logitech PC controller that's shaped like a typical PlayStation controller. It's not detected automatically like an Xbox controller is but with a program like xpadder you can map the controller to the keyboard and it works fine. It's just a bit of extra work.

Excellent, thanks CBR JGWRR and skullclutter... I was trying to decide between the Logitech and the Xbox 360 for Windows, and I think I'll just go ahead and get the 360. I'm lazy/incompetent enough that it's probably for the best.

While I haven't personally changed the settings, there is a section in Morrowind.ini pertaining to gamepad controls;

Code:
Background Keyboard=0
Use Joystick=0
Joystick X Turns=0
; X=1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
Joystick Look Up/Down=6
Joystick Look Left/Right=3
; 0=no, 1 = XBox Maps, 2 = Exterior Cell Maps

Disclaimer: I use the Morrowind Overhaul mod in conjunction with a Steam copy of GotY edition, so your mileage may vary.

As far as what controller to use, I bought a pair of generic wired Xbox 360 controllers from GameStop a couple years ago for like $20-25 each and I have had no complaints about their quality. I did have to download the drivers for them, since for whatever odd reason my 64-bit Win7 system didn't just "plug-and-play" like it should have.

Link to drivers for anyone else who may encounter this issue; http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us ... or-windows
