An Illustrator for Bethesda was creating an image of what he believed an elder's scroll looked like. He created the image so perfectly that it became a copy of an actual elder's scroll. He stared at the scroll too long and got sucked into the fabrics of time and space, leaving his mortal body and became a spirit. He arrived in Tamriel, a year after the events of the game Morrowind. He required a mortal body to survive and entered M'aiq the Liars body. The illustrator traveled Tamriel only spreading the truth of waht Bethesda was changing in the game. The illustrator passed from father to son, attempting to remain in Tamriel. Because he was not very creative at imagining new names he stuck with the name M'aiq with each generation.

Exactly. He's Bethesda's way of showing the differences between the Elder Scrolls games and explaining the removal and the adding of features.

Voted yes for the lolz.

Obviously, I wouldn't say he's any sort of divinity, but he does seem to live forever.

He's the Daedric Prince of Designer Commentary. His plane of Oblivion is the Bethesda offices.

IMO he's a Bethesda developer who wrote himself into the game, like the old Chinese painter who vanished into his own painting (which I think is more or less what Crusader's Amour meant up there). Or does anybody think it's a coincidence that his name is a homophone of Mr Kirkbride's given name?

He's a figment of the imagination. But the point is we
Never find out. M'aiq hhumours, confuses, and subtly breaks the fourth wall but we never find out about him. That's the point.

Ma'iq the Liar, is & isn't actually a liar.

You just don't know what he's lying about or whether he is a liar at all.

He is literally intended to be a provocative puzzle paradox of the soul.

His purpose, for why the developers put him in the game, was to help "conspiracy theorists" begin their use of logic to decipher if Ma'iq is actually a liar.
