Did using a bound weapon in Oblivion raise the skill with said weapon? 'Cause I can't remember and if it did, it might be the same in Skyrim. That would be quite useful: raise two skills at the same time.

It did raise, how ever swing it did not raise your Conj, only casting the spell

Yeah, I know, but still, there's always a Conjuration raise every time you summon it.
