Post subject:  Any ideas on how damage is calculated?

Since attributes have be reworked, I am wondering how the damage for spells and weapons play out in the game. Also, how perks and skills effect them. For example, if I get the fireball spell and it does 10 damage uncharged and 25 charged. Will the base damage increase if I raise my destruction lvl or will I have to wait for a perk to increase base damage? Another example, if I get a deadric longsword at lvl 5 that does 20 base damage, increasing blade will raise the damage output or will perks be the only thing that can the increase damage.

I guess what I am trying to say is all the power in the perks or do skills play some part? If perks decide how strong skills, spells and weapons are, those with out would be useless. Wouldn't they?

Skills still have to have some part in damage, it'd just be plain weird if high weapon skills meant nothing. My guess would be that they work like Oblivion (raises base damage for weapons and reduces magicka cost for magic), but perks will be doing the heavy lifting in terms of over-the-top damage modifiers

My guess is that skill increases magic damage this time. This would fit with the idea of offering the player a lot less spells but making each of them flexible.

*minor spoiler warning*
I guess that makes more sense since there are very few damage modifiers in the Destruction Perks and quite a few magicka reducing perks

Maybe, if we're lucky, it's both reduced cost and increased damage (could work with weapons as well except with Stamina cost)

The old formulas for weapons used to rely upon Strength, but as it has been removed, there must be some sort of replacement, or damage would be tied to heavily to simply your skill. Perhaps Stamina has an increased importance in damage calculation for Skyrim?

Base Weapon damage was still a factor back then and probably has a larger presence this time around...

I'd really hope they'd do away with the fatigue equation and make it so you don't feel like putting a fatigue IV on so that you could do the best damage...

It could be Max Stamina though, rather than current, or a combination of both, seeing as Max Stamina is the basis for Encumbrance, iirc.

I could only see it working if there weren't any fortify Stamina spells (which isn't the case) or it only works off of base Stamina numbers
