While browsing through the topics, I saw that many people are confused about whether or not Keyes' novel is canon to the TES lore.

Pete Hines confirmed it is :

@Silvade14 Yes, we consider the Elder Scrolls novels canon to TES lore.

You can see it on his Twitter account : DCDeacon (sorry, they won't let me post the link)

So there should be LOTS of Dunmer refugees in Skyrim :P

Was a new topic really necessary? It had been all but confirmed in the other Infernal City topic we had anyway.

Also, [&@%!] you Bethesda.

Hopefully, Skyrim is before the Infernal Novel.

Why? I don't think anything in the book will actually affect Skyrim one way or the other game-wise.

Nords of Skyrim and the people of Morrowind have bad blood between each other. It would be a crime not to include something happening about Morrowind v Skyrim, since we were basically told that something was happening between the Nords and Dunmer. In addition to that, Argonians taking Morrowind? Not even possible.

According again to the Infernal City, Skyrim will take place two hundred years after Oblivion. The Infernal City takes place forty years after Oblivion.

So yes, we have to accept the fact that Morrowind is now under Black Marsh control and that Vvardenfell is in ruins.

As for the consequences in Skyrim, imagine a sudden wave of Dunmer refugees trying to gain acceptance in a Nord society. There's sure to be some bad blood between the two races, and even more between Argonians and Dunmer.

Doesn't lore state that Winterhold is kind of a safe-haven of sorts for Dunmer? Think the influx is straining their relationships? Also, it says that most/many flee to Solstheim...maybe something of a story comes out of that.

On many websites such as Waterstones, the synopsis of the novel goes as follows :

"A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

My recollection is that this was a short lived synopsis, originally on Amazon, or some such, which was quickly redacted, so we're uncertain if it is kosher or not...

The Eurogamer announcement mentions it is a direct sequel, which I assume would mean straight after Oblivion, so I guess we've got conflicting reports...

as far as i know Skyrim has been confirmed as an immediate sequel to Oblivion by several game industry sources following the recent announcement, so the infernal city events will happen well after those in the new game. I wouldnt worry about what a book review said a few years ago about a game which wasnt even announced yet

what is "infernal city" anyhoo? :?:

As if the Argonians could take over Morrowind, Dark Elves are beasts <.<
I'm just going to continue to ignore The Infernal City's existance and hope it doesn't affect Skyrim too much.

So, if what we have speculated so far is true, the Infernal City takes place around what, 4e45? Skyrim will supposedly take place around 4e200? Even as a worse case scenario that leaves 155 years for possibly patching up the relationships between the provinces, and maybe rebuilding Vvardenfell? Who knows what they could do?

I suppose it's a possibility. If all that crap can happen in 45 years, it could be repaired in 155. Maybe the Dragonborn could tell the Argonians to get back to their own damn province.

I wouldn't believe that any day. It's not from Bethesda, and hasn't been confirmed by any major news source in video gaming.

It's true. Why can't people accept it. Like Veck said, if they can do it in 45 years. You have 155 till Skyrim to fix it or make it worse, anything is possible. I am neither a fan of the Argonians or the Dunmer. But it's lore. Either way I'm playing a Nord, and I welcome all the Lizard and Dark Elf scum trying to come into my land. I got a shiny new blade that need dull'n up.
