One question: where did you get that image with the tree? And unless there's a requirement for Advanced armorer apart from the level in Smithing, I suppose you can pick it.

I see. The thing is, unlike One-handed (as an example), that clearly starts at Armsman, Smithing is more like a circle, so I guess you can start wherever you want...? I know I want to get Arcane blacksmith and possibly Advanced armorer and Dragon smithing, but I'm not waisting perk points on the other perks to get to them. Well, we'll all know for certain in less than a week. I suppose everything will be detailed on the UESP soon after the release, right? I won't be playing until December, and I'm quite anxious to know how it'll work.

You can't start wherever you want, you have to work your way from Steel smithing.

I think the Smithing path is a two tiered one that just begins and ends in the same place, this making the circle.

But Advanced Armors is still on the Light Armor branch of the tree. I don't think Heavy Armor users would be very happy to go through the Light Armor perks to be able to make Plate Armors.

Keep in mind that most of those perks (except Arcane, Advanced Armor, and Dragon) are for different smithing materials/styles which apply to both armor and weapons. Those interested in heavy armor would only have to buy one "extra" perk (Elven Smithing) to get to Advanced Armors, and they can still get something out of it by being able to make/improve elven weapons. Of course the AA perk might also mean being able to create a plate version of elven armor, so they'd get more benefit from it as well.
