I was worrying about how long I would have to wait before playing it, some games take 10 minutes to install, others can take an entire day.

If it took me a day to install a program on my computer, I wouldn't be worried over the time wasted— I'd be concerned whether or not the vacuum tubes were getting enough ventilation or a punchcard got mangled in the rollers.

Ah! My appologies! Just checked that and you are right! But still, I wouldn't completely dismiss the possibility of the game being less than 5 gb.
But really? As long as it is all on one disc I'm more than happy

I doubt it will take a day! Don't worry! On friday 11.11.11 you will be adventuring in the lands of Skyrim forgeting about this thread.

They said the xbox version uses heavy caching so if it is only like 4 gigs I'm sure a ton of it is compressed and has to be loaded onto the hard drive cache to play

Now that worries me and I really hope it wont be like that :(

Fallout 3 is only like 4.4 and it's massive. Calm down about how big this installation size is.

And it'll probably only take five minutes to install on 360/PS3. i installed all three discs for rage(22.something gb) and it only took 20 minutes. so 3.6 will fly by. and ps3 installed all of rage (one disc for ps3) quicker than one of my three 360 discs.. so the times should be about even on those for skyrim, more or less.

Fallout 3 didn't use caching.

4.4GB?

People really need to start researching these things before they post ._.

On xbox.
Is that wrong?

And just the main game. Not the dlc too.

The main game is 5.5 gb, still pretty small for being as big as the game was but yeah, your numbers were wrong.

Oh sorry, going off memory here. But still 5.5 is really small, and it's three years old.

An Xbox DVD can hold around 7 GB of data. Account for the fact that the latest Xbox titles must carry the installation file neccessary to fix any out-of-date Xboxes that happen to remain off the grid, and you're looking at 6.5+ GB of available room for any one disc in the title.

To be fair though, microsoft recently updated something with their anti-piracy software on the dvd;s opening up 1 gb or so of memory. Recent games have the ablility to make use of 8 or so gb!

They recently changed the disc format by flashing the DVD drive firmware.

Im sure someon pointed this out but the PS3 version of Oblivion installed while you play and once installed the entire game played via HDD as you can hear the disk spindle stop.

The PS3 game requires 5.5GB of HDD space.

I don't care how long it takes to install, you will only need to do it once. Plus, if it's anything like Oblivion and Morrowind, from what I remember, there will be a bunch of awesome pictures to watch while it installs. :D

This I would like to know.

I'd hate for you to be only able to download it once it's released.

6 gigs? Mmmm, with my PC, and it not being digitally downloaded; I'd estimate it'll take an hour, hour and-a-half at most.
