It's bound to happen eventually, so I figured we'd better create a thread now before we get swarmed by a dozen of 'My TES V Wishlist' topics.
Anyway, this is for everyone to make a list of what they want in (or out) of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
I'll start:
- A non-linear main quest. In Oblivion, the world itself was wonderful, but the main quest structure meant you hadn't much choice regarding what to do and how to do it.
- More small villages. One thing I'd really like is to have small settlements all over the territory. They don't all need to have a quest attached. It'd just be nice to be travelling alone and spot a Inn and a few houses where you can make base for a while.
- A travelling system. Don't you say fast travel was optional. The very existence of fast travel made them not include any other form of travelling, except walking (and riding). How nice would it be to be able to catch a boat from one city to the other? Keep fast-travel if you want to, but include this as well.

Actually scratch the lock I just gave, I decided against it. Feel free to write all your ideas down, had a moment of indecisiveness there.
Please note that if this turns into a massive discussion thread I will lock it though, this is more a place to post your collective ideas down.
So no one liners, detailed posts only.

1. Better World Design - I feel as if Oblivion was just cities and towns placed in a large forest. No real memorable routes, no real distinction to where you were in the world.
2. A better combat system - I don't really know what I would like them to do with it. Just something a bit... more.
3. Weapon magic effects - I want to be able to see what type of effect I have on my sword. I want it to be on fire if it has fire damage, or look frozen for frost damage.
4. More unique items - More named swords, and more named pieces of armor. I love questing for them and I always wanted more of them to look for.
5. My skills back - I want my short blade skill back mostly, but I don't want this to have less skills in it for sure. Morrowind had a great set of skills, I would be very happy if most of them made it back.
6. The NPC problem - I don't want them to be so... weird. I would like more voice actors too, it's only after so long that I get sick of hearing the same voice in every town.
7. Get rid of level Scaling - I want high level areas to be completely off limits, not like there is a danger, like I will be eaten after setting foot in high level areas. The system for Morrowind was great. Oblivions wasn't bad, just not as good.

Incorporate the Speechcraft skill into actual conversations.
Basically, you have a list of responses to choose from: aggressive, humorous, serious, passionate. Whenever you character replies to an NPC, you'll choose a reply tailored along one of those four categories. How your response plays against the NPC's own personality will raise or lower their disposition to you. A coward would buckle under an aggressive response, a stoic would rebuff your appeal to emotion, a cheerleader would think you a bore by taking a sullen, no-nonsense approach.
Forget about the minigame. Forget about Speechcraft being a skill you need to level-up. Incorporate it into the game as organically as possible, instead of making it an immersion-breaking hassle.

1. Decent Companions I'll admit, I'm pretty hopeful for this one with the way the latest two Fallouts have incorporated it. You can meet a follower in say, an inn, and convince them to join up with you via Speechcraft, bribery, whatever. They don't have to be too powerful, but they could at least have names and personalities.
2. Better Voice Acting In the 5 minutes or so I was playing Oblivion, I had my head in my hands listening to Patrick Stewart. One of the most famous voices in the world, and he's giving out the most emotionless and boring voice I've ever heard. I understand that too many people have the same voices as well, which should go.
3. Non-combat possibilities Not everyone wants to roleplay a Battleaxe-wielding powerhouse. There should be more quest options, or maybe even quests altogether, that focus on skills other than fighting.
4. Morality This could be included in addition to Fame and Infamy, and basically measures just how willing you are to help or hinder people in your daily routine. Just because you're a thief for a living doesn't make you evil, but if you start stealing for fun or from the poor, you start losing morality.
I can probably think of more later.

Because stealing from rich people is a moral decision?
"An honest thief? I'll leave it to the priests of Zenithar to debate that paradox with you."

Skyrim could definately go for...
1. A better feudal system. Oblivion and Morriwind had this but it wasnt really practical.
2. A "bigger picture". lots of factions fighting over control of something. In Oblivion there was too much "ohhh there is the grand champion!!!" the world should work around the player as well as with him
3. Lot more random NPCs???? the Fallout games did a decent job with this so they will probably use it.
4. Sieges??? What is the point of castles without some catapults and battering rams!! Maybe a trebuchet or a bombard?
These are just some broad things that could be covered in Skyrim.
Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:03 am
1) Falmer
2) Werewolves
3) More skills
4) No level scaling (It would also be nice if there was a way to see the level of the thing you're fighting.)
5) Seasons, maybe holidays if Bethesda goes all-out.
6) Multiple endings. (This is an Elder Scrolls game, though. No definite endings.)
7) Did I mention Falmer?

Here's a few things I would like:
1. No psychic guards! If I'm wanted in one city, the guards on the other side of the country shouldn't automatically know. I think the guard's should maybe send a message to other areas, informing the locals of my criminal deeds. The could do it through messenger bird, couriers, etc. If I get arrested, they shouldn't automatically know what I stole, unless I was caught for stealing that item, or the item was reported stolen by it's owner.
2. More variety in weaponry. I want more purpose-built weapons like spears, halberds, staffs(for melee), flail weapons, and different designs for me to chose from. And I also wanna use anything I can get my paws on as a weapon. A pack of wolves is attacking me? I'll swing my burning torch at them. That big ugly Nord at the local tavern is bullying me for being a little wood elf? I'll smack him with the bottle of mead I was drinking.
3. Better combat: Location damage like in fallout would be nice. and I want the ability to wound an attacker(like a bad injury that will ultimately make him/her bleed to death if left unchecked). Unarmed combat could be better as well. I would like to see grappling, kicks, eye gouges, even strikes to the nose, groin, and throat. I'd like spells to be able to have a chance to inflict an additional effect(freeze, incinerate, etc.). Using telekinesis to attack an opponent would be extremely satisfying to me.
4. A character's initial stats should still matter end-game. My female Bosmer with the thief birthsign, should NEVER be able to naturally reach the same strength as my axe-wielding Orc with the warrior sign. If a character starts with a +20 strength bonus, then I feel their strength should max out at 120, and the extra 20 points should still contribute to damage they do.
5. Chain skills. What I mean is: Say you're proficient with blade and armorer. This should give you the ability to forge your own powerful blades(like a silver cutlass that's lighter and stronger than any silver sword you would find). Or if you're good with conjuration and destruction magic, you could be able to make a custom spell that allows you to summon a bound weapon that deals fire damage(or whatever element you prefer).
There's a lot more I can think of, but I've said enough for now.

There are a few things that i think that they should put into SKYRIM from previous games and also general things from the back oof my mind:
1. Being able to join more factions such as the Imperial cult, Imperial Legion and Morag Tong
2. The inclusion of transport services e.g. boats, and equivalent creatures to Morrowinds silt striders
3. The reintroduction of claymores, wakizashi, throwing knives/darts, spears/halberds, and crossbows
4. Mark/recall spell, and possibly levitation
5. Larger world to explore to suck more hours of my social life away
6. A different beginning besides waking up in a jail/dungeon type scenario, maybe Fallout 3 style and be born at your remote cottage in the wilderness.
7. Don,t have creatures that level up with you, but have a variety of tougher and smarter creatures as you progress in level
8. They should definitely include the
ICE BLADE OF THE MONARCH in it, it would go extremely well with all that frost we're gonna encounter

1) Climbing ability. Nothing crazy, just a basic, reasonable ability to climb.
2) More voice actors. Oh for the love of all things sacred more voice actors please.
3) At least 90% unique faces. Maybe that was a daunting request in 2002, and apparently in 2006, but not now. Please don't make them fruity and flighty.
4) Better AI. I know this is a work in progress, and it continues to improve, but it still deserves a spot on the wishlist.
5) Stop streamlining and bring back the depth and complexities of Morrowind. We're RPG gamers... we thrive on complications LOL.
6) Oh sweet christmas on a crumpet please hire more freakin' voice actors... did I mention that already?...

Agree about the mainquest.
-
There are decent amount of inns in Oblivion, but I agree it'd be nice if they were more than just a random building in the middle of the forest.
I also wanna be able to camp,
(As in set up my own, not rob some bandit's bedroll) the one thing I used fast travel for was to get to one of those inns or my home, to sleep. Maybe if you just required a camp set or even just your own carryable bedroll.
With a fair carry-weight price, obviously.
-
Horses are a brilliant form of travel, since you mention them.
They're personally controlled, yet faster, and they're not stuck to roads.
But variety would be nice.
Don't care if fast travel is kept if they give me a portable bed, though.
Also don't want the levelling system for
anything,
(Not just enemies) since all it meant for me was choring through levels to be able to get the best possible rewards.
If a reward/quest is meant for someone of a certain level, put hazards/"guards" around it that only someone of that level should be able to get, and if you can get it earlier then good job.
(Unless you're exploiting a glitch, then no 'good job', but I, personally, won't chastise) I'm obviously not the only one who hates levelled enemies. I wanna find Ogres when I'm level 2. Fleeeeeee.
But maybe, if that were the case, enemies would give up the chase a little sooner..

This too, I don't think it'd be terribly unique
(I have Mass Effect-style convos in my head) but it'd be better.
And a lower cap on the bribing.
Or abolish it altogether.
Make charm spells worth a damn.

I want a Hardcore mode like what was implemented in New Vegas where You must eat sleep and drink to stay alive. Along with this if the environment affected the character's physical condition like hypothermia or something.

ThorsHand11 wrote:I want a Hardcore mode like what was implemented in New Vegas where You must eat sleep and drink to stay alive. Along with this if the environment affected the character's physical condition like hypothermia or something.
Sleeping would give the game that extra RPG-touch. If you had to sleep, one could actually make use of those inns.
Mon Dec 13, 2010 10:16 pm
How about fishing, for food, scales or whatever. Nothing hardcore like cabella's or anything but just the ability to pick up a fishing pole and go over to the rivers edge and try and catch some fish.
I would like to see headshots count as an instant kill instead of a stealth kill with one shot and it happens to be in the arm.
Mon Dec 13, 2010 10:18 pm
1. Spears - We need this! We can't live without these!
2. Hats - Maybe they will not help in snowy Skyrim, but I always wanted hats!
3. Better magic system - rework the whole magic system, more animations for different spells

1. I really hope the World is quite a bit larger, more Morrowind Style than Oblivion, it just seemed everything was so near everything else
2. More NPCs that you can interact with just for fun, or get people to fight for you or something, kindof along the lines of Dragon Age, but not so much to where thats all it is because it seemed there was more talking than fighting in that game
3. More voice actors!! PLEASE!! I know its been said ahundred times over but I feel the need to reinforce it,
4. More unique faces, it seemed everyone looked alike
5. More interaction with the factions and people, I loved how Oblivion had all the seperate groups you could become the leader of, but once you were, that was it, a few cool things happened but it wasnt like the whole World knew who you were
6. I want to be able to use anything as a weapon, just because I can
7. It would be cool if you could have an option for levelling, like a yes or no thing, because when I first started playing it I loved it and wouldn't have it any other way, but after I beat it a few times I was aggravated at how long it took for everything to become awesome
8. I know this one is lame, but being a diehard band nerd, I think it would be cool if you could play a musical instrument that would like knock the other characters out or something wicked cool
Mon Dec 13, 2010 10:28 pm
- Poison spell from Morrowind
- Hats
- Spear/halberds
- Beards
- Better companions/eventual LI's
- M'Aiq the Liar

If they make it into an MMORPG, we could all gather at an inn and listen to you play for us.

If I may make an amendment to my list,
I'd really like to see the darkness/lock spells that were found with an obnoxious (DO NOT USE!!!!!!) tag in the Oblivion CS. I think they would make a stealth-based magic character more practical.

The problem with that is is a character was going to go through a door that you locked and you were in script mode, you just broke the game.

4. making camps in the wilderness, with portable tents and sleeping bags
5. new creatures, the old ones to be improved and to suit the climate
6. underwater sights, like ruins, boats and stuff like in Morrowind
7. moar guilds!!!1!11!
8. and better companions.

For clothing it would be nice that non-armor clothing could have unlimited health just like in Oblivion.
Fallout was a real pain about that.

As I briefly mentioned in the Dragon Born thread, aerial Dragon-based combat would be awesome. Basically, you'd be able to team up with a "good" dragon and take on one of the attacking "evil" dragons. Of course, you'd likely be restricted to using ranged attacks while the dragons flies itself, or to simply controlling the dragon, but it would still be a pretty cool feature nonetheless.
I also support the ability to train Major Skills and Racial affinity skills up higher than all of the other skills.

Yeah, you could be a bard and lull your enemies tomsleep, tire them, burden them, drive them insane...yeah, that'd be awesome...
I wouldn't mind running with a sort of keyboard
like Sona from League of Legends.
