So, recently, Chick-fil-A came out of the closet *snicker, snicker* (as people are calling the official-izing of their homophobic anti-gay marriage stance), and, as a result, an increasing amount of people are boycotting their fried-chickeny-goodness, even in places as conservative as Kentucky and Arkansas.

I'm kind of on the fence; I feel like I really want to boycott it out of principle, but I don't go there that often anyhow, so it's a back-burner thing for me--fast food, in general, makes me (literally) sick. I think the issue is silly: yes, the owner of the company is a dogmatic bigot who gives as much money as is feasible for him to towards anti-gay (marriage) groups, but what about the average worker for his company? Many of my friends worked there their senior year, or through college, and they were generally treated well. Is it fair to punish them for their [censored] of a boss?

Anyway, anyone else banning/binging Chick-fil-A? Don't take this too seriously, either way.

Oh, and in case tl;dr, or you just prefer moving pictures with sound over reading, here's Cenk and the gang making light of the issue, as well:

Why the hell would a chicken-based corporation take a stance on any political situation or ideas? You're going to make a lot of people mad, obviously.

I've heard the name before, but for fried chicken over here on the West Coast, we have KFC and Popeye's.

the owner is a serious and maybe senciere christian. he owns thousands of stores all closed sunday. he tries to promote family values. i like that when my wife had a 3 year old and a 1 year old and stopped there, they offered cheerios to the baby(no cost) and carry the food to the table for people with kids.

he lives his values, that bothers a lot of people.

side note, the food is good enough i don't care.

I believe gay and lesbian people have the right to do what they want. That said I can't boycott everthing that doesn't agree with them. I'll still go to Chick-fil-A, I like the food. Sorry, for excepting his right to have an opinion as well.

Sound a bit like the owners of In-N-Out Burgers here on the West Coast.

I need to go find my nearest Chick-fil-a... for the chicken of course... not in support! *eyes move shiftily*

In all honesty, good for the owner to show his belief, but I'm not quite approving on if he makes it the entire companies stance, positions on such subject is really a personal decision.

And don't forget Dairy Queen serving milk products, how dare they!

[/offtopic] I can't say that I've ever actually had Chick-fil-a, KFC is closer.

Closer in terms of local proximity. What KFC sells is nowhere near what most folk call 'chicken'.
I swear: I will never eat at a KFC in any metropolitan location, due to the risk that they may very well be serving breaded pigeons.

One summer a few years back, Rubio's tried to stretch out their menu with something called an "All-American Burger Taco"... :|

Some things are best left unexplored.

Boycott them now? You should all be boycotting the fast food industry anyway.

If the owner of Chickers is willing to take the hit to his bottom line in order to make a political statement, more power to him. Conservative blowhard gets to feel self-righteous, boring, busybody activists get to feel self-righteous, and superior Southern chicken shacks like Zaxby's receive marginally more patronage. Capitalism, freedom of speech, and chicken grease: three great tastes that taste great together.

I think businesses should be judged on the product/service they produce, not the opinions of their owners.

I don't think it's the opinion of the owners that bothers people so much as the fact that giving Chick-fil-a their money is an indirect way of financing a campaign against marriage equality.

I don't live close to any Chick-fil-a stores anymore, but either way I avoid fast food for health reasons rather than political reasons. IMO Burger King has done more harm to this country than Chick-fil-a and their activism ever will.
