You seriously believe that committing suicide will stop your mother from getting into heaven?

In terms of Christianity , it's somewhere in there, that there's this place in hell for people who committed suicide. Something about how they threw away the life that god gave them.

You are thinking of Dante's Inferno where the those who gave up their own lives are forever forced to live in bleeding trees that have their branches broken daily to remind them of their stupidity.

Possibly, I read it in some book, about the circles of hell, when I was 10 or 11

Why do we need to have a soul? To imply that we have a soul doesn't make much sense, as we have literally no evidence to suggest such thing as a soul exists. The burden of proof would be to prove that it exists. Why would science need to be able to explain something that as far as we can tell, doesn't exist?

You might be interested in the Metaphysics of Ontology then.

I was involved in a debate with the leading expert in world Dualism, David Chalmers, only a few months ago. Chalmers is pretty well renowned in philosophy circles as a defender of the concept of having a 'mind or a soul' in addition to a physical brain.

Conclusion? I basically argued that humans are completely physical, because everything in the world is physical.

Well that was some of the argument at its base level. There is more depth I could go into, but it would require me teaching you a bit of metaphysics and Ontology.

Oh no it's not that I doubt your intellect, but it's almost midnight and I really do need to go to bed. Plus I'm too tired to teach.

Another time perhaps I'll revisit the ideas with you .

Religion will never die out as some have claimed. So long as there are people, there will always be those believe in things apart from science. Religion may wane and weaken, but it won't die.

Maybe some next step in evolution will get rid of the thing we don't need longer.

Evolution won't solve anything. Religion isn't about how smart or how dumb you are. It's about what you don't know. So long as there are unanswered questions in the universe, there will be people attempting to answer them.

Humanity could be the most advanced sentient race 5000 years from now but there will still be more questions to ask.

Take it this way, there are still people who practice wicca. And the fact that it's an extremely minor group doesn't make a difference, especially since a giant wicca revolution that can happen across the globe at any moment, isn't any less likely than anything else.
who knows what people will be thinking or will think?

I know this is probably going to offend some people but while browsing different religeons I jokingly clicked on satanism and alot of what they say actually makes good sence but - of course some of their more extreme aspects detract from the good points.

That's nothing offensive at all. All religions have their awesome sounding stuff and their other stuff you wouldn't think about liking. Even Buddhism has that.

The aztec had good stuff as well. It's just the human sacrificing people remember.

So no, I'm nt offended. It's your viewpoint- I have never read about satanism, but I would assume, that yes, some of their points would make sense. Whether to believe in them or not is a different matter.

I have read a great deal about Satanism. LaVeyan Satanism in particular is a very interresting religion. Satan isn't even worshipped nor are there true deities. It's all about the self.

I know this is absolute massive necroposting, but I find it absolutely interesting just how much my religion beliefs have changed within the space of a year.

I am a lot closer to believing in a god (A higher power, not necessarily a floaty man in the clouds) and I also believe in the existence of an eternal part in all of us, the soul in my eyes.

However, I still feel that an organised religion is completely not for me. In my eyes, religious and spiritual beliefs should be left to the individual to discover and decide and not laid out to follow.

As well as a personal shift in beliefs, I feel a lot more able to respect other people's beliefs or opinions. I respect your choice to be; Athiest, Christian, Muslim, pastafarian. As long as you don't keep on trying to tell me or others that they're wrong, or insist on blowing things up.

Again, sorry for bringing up an old thread. I'll grab my coat.
