Topics about political, philosophical, religious and other value based issues haven't been favored in UESP. We are trying to open the lid, allowing these. If you have an idea about a topic in these areas, please give the topic you've thought about, as well as a description of the subject, and preferably some picture of what might be possible flamings, or causes of controversy. Send your message as PM to Dark Lord or Generalno1.

What you need to make sure is that it's

NOT
Your wrong (no specified reason)

Shouldn't be
Your wrong because...

Should be
I think/ my view is this because...

I don't know if that make sence, but basically people shouldn't try to devalue others opinions and instead should aim to share thier own.

Well this is a can of worms if ever I saw one. :P However this is seems to be a very polite forum, so I doubt there's much to worry about when it comes to civility.

I was always taught that when you're in the pub socialising, you should NEVER discuss religion or politics. They're the two biggest causes of war, and on a smaller scale, knock down drag out bar brawls that disrupt everyone's enjoyment! That goes for anything else that's too obviously controversial, as well.

So, we can make a thread for Religion, politics, etc.? Just in a friendly way?

As you seem to have understood yourself, this is not a philosophical debate topic. ... me neither...

You know, if this new system of allowing religious, political and whatever threads works out...which it has been doing. I would really like to see a new sub-forum for it. Expanding the site in that way could be a good thing, I mean yeah sure you can't stop every argument from happening or people getting a tad upset... but that happens in threads which don't have any controversial issues anyway. Always has, always will.

There are sections for everything else, and I believe these types of threads are to important to be thrown in with the normal general banter section. I'm not saying do it RIGHT now, but it may be a good thing to think about for the future, no?

I would vote on a Debate section, perhaps a non-debate section for those touchy sections as well (sexuality, etc).

I would also vote on sectional moderators there too, just for that extra coverage.

It should be called Discussion. It should specifically state, that there is no arguing, and no debating.

An argument, by any other name, is still an argument: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/debate

A debate is a formal argument. There is the pro and the con. The intent is for one side to prove the other wrong... an argument.

I agree that if a new sub-forum was opened then there should be more moderators. If it takes off then the current moderators will get overwhelmed.

It's not too much of a strain, it barely makes a difference. At least for me. So you really don't need to worry about sectional moderators.

I have a question about these topics. Can there be friendly debate involved, as long as both sides stay calm, and it isn't reduced to an all caps match?

Won't matter if you're trying to prove the other side wrong, tensions will rise. just Talk about it, if that's possible for your topic.

For now it's fine. But I'm thinking for when Skyrim is released. Having l33t noobs up in Skyrim and flamers/trolls down in the debate section, is probably going to cause some strain.

We already plan on doing things when that happens, but for now, the current mod team will handle.
Skyrim is still a few months away

I'd say that the current mod team does a great job overall and doesn't need to really change.

We should cross the Skyrim bridge when we get to it, it is still May after all .

A recent thread has lead me to believe that in order to have meaningful discussions about such topics, we need - among other things - a separate sub-forum. Topics like religion are so complex. It takes a large number of threads in order to discuss them properly - threads that would clutter the "General Banter" section. So I call for a separate sub-forum. Anyone like this idea?
