Arotos- It was cuz nobody had gotten Matt yet, so the question was still up in the air. Prince Phil was already let out of the bag by weka, so I figured it'd be mean to let somebody else steal the win when Bear did most of the legwork and should have had the full answer anyways. You're right, you SHOULD have won that Groening one... next time, either stay quiet until you get all of them, or wait until someone reveals the mystery man before springing your right answers!

Actually, for a second educated guess....

The first five rows are completely equal/straight. Then for the 6th row, you grab a few more loops to make a sort of "bulge", then the 7th row will be back to original size. Repeat a few times, and you get a sort of..... wavy pattern.

____/\______/\______/\_____
____..______...______.._____
........\/............\/............\/

(Ignore the dots, those are just placeholders.)

Sorry, I don't mean the pattern of the actual article, I mean the pattern that shows up on the surface.

OK, since it seems to be harder than expected, I'll write it out in full....

Row 1: Purl 3, Knit 8, Purl 3 repeat
Row 2-5: repeat Row 1
*Row 6: Purl 3, 4 (stitches) slipped to back (of knitting), Knit 4, Knit the 4 stitches slipped to the back (ie those stitches that you moved just before knitting 4 more) , Purl 3
Row 7-13: repeat Row 1

Then you repeat from the * down until you've knitted as far as you need!

I should have said, that I was assuming on round needles, so you're always knitting on the "front" side of the knitting.

Surely someone here knows how to knit?! My brothers both learnt, growing up, we all learnt how to do alot of things from scratch, no real gender bias (or when there was any gender bias, 5hrs of constant "but the boys can do it, why can't we" is enough to wear anyone down!!).

Sorry to respond to your question with a question, but is knitting the same as sewing? I want to sew some pants, and my gf knows how to knit, so I asked her to teach me some sewing skills. She insists she doesn't know the first thing about sewing, but I say that's a lie; they're the same thing, only one involves slightly bigger thread, right?

As you can probably tell, I'm NEVER going to get this trivia question right, even if you gave me the answer.

Vesna, it's going to you, you're close enough.

It's a cable pattern.

 Oh Doros, how I love you!!!

And no, they're nothing alike!! Though normally you do sew up your knitting after you've finished, unless you're only making a scarf!

What sort of sewing are you talking about, fully tailored suit??

I know how to knit, just the Russian terms are different.

PS: It was mandatory to pass kindergarden...

Sewing a ripped pair of jeans. Not enough clothes pins, and they're not tight enough for the loose-and-free ripped look.

Good grief man!! You can't do that?!?!!

Get a needle, get some thread! Thread the thread through the eye of the needle!

In one layer of the fabric....

OK, this is going to take too long, what sort of rip? Does it req a patch? Or is it just the seam come appart? Or what?

This might be a good help for starters, but I'm sure I can explain it easily to you, or failing that, post them over and I'll fix them myself!

No, but it took me ten seconds; my last music theory course was a few years ago and I haven't so much as touched my piano in almost a year now. I'm ashamed, too, because the Circle of Fifths is one of those things you should be able to recite in your sleep!

I... I actually had to resort to the old "Cmajor-Aminor" trick to figure out what the relative minor scale was! And D major was always one of my favorite scales!!!

Man you're creeping me out, I didn't think anyone else had a favorite key, or that one in particular. Next you're going to tell me that Ds are orange for you, too

Kids these days.
Back in my day, I had to walk five miles to get to the track so I could run five miles, and then I'd have to run five miles back to get a water bottle so I could run another five miles after the drink.

Well, to be honest my ALL TIME favorite was probably D minor (especially D melodic minor)... maybe C# minor.

And D major is always blue. A sort of bluish-white with gold flecks, to be exact.

You've inspired me! That might not be a good thing, mind you.

This may be too hard for folks, but it's definitely easier than weka's last question and since there are quite a lot of musically inclined folks here on the board I'll give it a shot. What is this, and who is it by?

I also would have accepted "Ninja Rap" and "That One Song From Resident Evil What Jill Plays To Open The Secret Compartment, You Know the Bit I'm Talking About"

Unfortunately, Chris can't read music!

I assume he's off to play Oblivion. Though, assuming the time, he might as well be sleeping. It's around 5:30 AM in US of A, isn't? Seriously, Weka, are you always up this late? o_O"
