Post subject:  Question about Android phone (EVO)

Long story short, my EVO is busted and needs to be replaced. I want to just replace the damn thing but my current carrier can't do that without pulling a lot of money out of my wallet. I even went to downgrade my phone but they still gave me the third degree. Thing is, I don't give enough of a damn to pay that much money for a phone.

So here's my question, can I just buy a used EVO of the same model and swap my SIM card? It seems to be that straight forward but I'm sure you guys know better than me so I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Possibly. Depends on your carrier and the phone. If you're with Sprint or Verizon, there is no SIM card you can just swap. Their phones are locked to their networks, so you would have to buy a phone that is branded as one of theirs.

AT&T and T-Mobile use SIM cards and as long as the phone can access the frequencies the carrier uses and is unlocked you should be ok.

If you're buying the exact same phone you should be fine. Just check to make sure the ESN is clean (not reported lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair) before buying.

I'm with Sprint and I do indeed want the exact same phone. Didn't know about ESN's but I just googled that, glad you pointed that out.

Is the little red thing under the battery the SD card? And if so technically the phone would work without it, albeit it wouldn't be able to store anything? Sorry for silly questions but I like to iron out these things in my brain or else my ADD brain won't remember it.

Thanks for the help! You saved me a bunch of money and more importantly a visit to Dachau err I mean the Sprint store.

UPDATE: Just tried purchasing a replacement off ebay. Just had to change my paypal password, no problem right? Verification code worked via text, then all I have to do is answer security questions.

My first pet? easy
My favorite historical character? Uhhhh dammit, I'll verify via my credit card number. Wait, they have my old one on file! Okay, I'll just have them call me. Wait my phone's broken! ahhhhh

I suppose if this is the worst problem of my day then life's pretty rad.
