Yup, three evenings and my dad and me cured my PS3 of YLOD disease!
Congratulations are more than welcome

So happy we did it before 111111

Congratulations!! hopefully it doesn't revert back to it. I know a friend of mine fixed his YLOD ps3 and like 2 weeks later it did it again. Good luck though!

How? Using a heat gun?

Yeah, not to put you down but it's likely to happen again in the next month. I treated my old fat ps3 on two occasions with the heat gun to the motherboard + reapplication of thermal paste, with both operations being succesful in reviving the machine from YLOD. However, for some reason operation number 3, about 6 weeks later, did not go so well and the old boy was afflicted with jet engine syndrome from then on. Another few months and the fatal YLOD struck once more, and I decided it was time to put him to rest.

On the bright side, another far easier treatment has been discovered. Apparently if you shove the machine in the freezer(in a sealed bag of course) soon after the YLOD attack it will revive it, but again not a permanent cure.

Maybe start thinking of upgrading to a 'slim', I believe you can get them for about £250 now, mine has had no problems so far and I've not heard of anyone having problems. The blu-ray drive from your fat ps3 is one of the most expensive components in the machine and would go towards a new slim if you sell it on ebay.

Leave it a few months anyway and wait, I think on rare occasions the heatgun treatment(or others) do cure permanently.

Good luck.

Indeed, I replaced a PS3 Blu Ray drive for one of my friends and the drive costed him €75. I nursed my dying Xbox for 3 years with packets of thermal grease, heat guns, "X-Clamp fixes" and wet towels before I decided to just get a slim. The PS3 and Xbox 360 slim seems to be practically immune to overheating issues such as the YloD and the RroD as well as drive malfunctions.
