Been stalking this thread slightly, looking at all the wonders. Lovely photos, writings and funny drawings!

If I could I'd join in with a recent sketch, sadly I'm not authorized to do so...I will continue to stalk instead. :D

right so, I have this faerytale that I am working on, with Azura's help, and as I lay in bed one night, just before I fell asleep, a series of images flashed through my head about this dark, enchanted foreboding forest swept through my head. I instantly knew that it was what the forest in the faerytale should look like, and set about mentally describing it, so I could later write it all down on paper. I fell asleep with an adjective heavy picture firmly in mine mind.
The next morning, I summoned back all those words and that picture of that beautiful forest and got it all onto paper, in written form. When I got the second draft complete, for the first was crude and undefined, I thought to my self, "It would be really awesome if i could get this drawn into a picture, so those among us who are unable to picture things mentally can see this image as I have in my mind's eye." At first I was daunted by such a big task. usually I don't draw things of this nature, just things like faces and or the occasional full body profile shot of a bestial race or character for one of my many book ideas. But I figured that if I took it slow, working on the picture in a series of drafts, with each one getting more complex and closer to the final product, just like one would for a story manuscript, that I should be able to do it. So I set out on my self-made quest and came up with the following pictures. A few things to note mind you is that 1): the contrast for this picture is MUCH higher than I intend. You will get an idea of what I had in mind if you pop over to the Writer's Guild in a few minutes and read the adjective heavy draft I wrote out as my original inspiration for the picture. 2): Quality of the picture is low. I had to use a camera to snap a shot of the drawn picture, as my usual method of scanning the image into the computer, than uploading to UESP is out of commission do to hardware issues. So some of the smaller features, like the eyes peering out of the darkness, are hard to spot. 3): These images are in the draft stage. Even the newest and 4th one is incomplete, though much closer to being finished. I am having a hard time with adding faeries to the mix, so for the moment, they are not present in any of the pictures. Also, things like the eyes peering out of the darkness is also under construction. Having minor difficulty there. 4): Depth perception and shading/fading. I am decent with geometric shapes and making those turn from a square to a cube, but things like pools and trees are a mite harder. And then the lighting effects. I never had much success with it, though I understand the basic concepts of it.

So with out any further adu, behold my handiwork.

Draft 01: general idea gathered. Platform for mushrooms, fallen rotten log, needed. Platform for eyes peering out of darkness concept achieved, more work needed.
Spoiler:

Draft02: General idea enhanced. Pool/stream combo requires more work. Fern pod color requires more work. ferns leaves perfected. Main tree added, requires more work.
Spoiler:
Image

Draft 03: main tree perfected. Fallen log removed, stump left. 'Shrooms enhanced, more work needed. Fern pod color perfected. Pool/stream enhanced, lilies, cat tails and roots added, needs more work.
Spoiler:

Draft 04: Background trees enhanced, needs more detailing in trunks. Lilies and cat tails enhanced, more work needed. Fireflies (those little white orbs) added, quantity increase undecided. Stump perfect. 'Shrooms perfected. Toadstools more work is needed. Better color fading of grass into forest needed. General darker contrast required (not achievable with current method). Faeries and their nests required. More lilies and frogs in pool required. Cat tails undecided. Not sure to enhance of cut. More work on eyes peering out of darkness needed.

Like said, just my first 4 of most likely 6 drafts. I was just eager to show you guys what I was working on. Other drafts and final product hopefully soon to follow.

of course, thanks to Postimage.org, who made my posting this possible. Check them out at image host.

And finally, check out the Writer's Guild to see the original written draft that inspired this drawing series.

Update: Time on computer has run out. Will have to provide written draft on a later time or date. My apologies. Will post ASAP.

-Venger

@ Venger: Great work! :D I love your approach to your creative ideas.
I am exceedingly fond of fairy-tales, and the fact that this semester I am writing a thesis on the folklore of the British Isles kinda goes to show that.

Awesome pics Kailay. Very nice indeed. I particularly like the grave stone pics.

I love how i can post images now!
Here is a quick shot of a wooden fork I carved in about 2 hours time. Pretty rough. I haven't tried eating with it, but it would work for that. my policy is "Why make something to look at? Make it to be used!" I believe it is from a juniper, or some variant of cedar, but I don't really know. However it does smell like pickles on rye, the wood that is. And no, I am not joking. When we were splitting it for firewood, every one in my family thought so.

DOUBLE POST!

After seeing some of Kailay's awesome photos, I decided to grab our camera and give it a go myself. And thanks to a camera that does it all for me, meaning all I have to do is point and click, I was able to get some decent shots. Though, saying that really takes all the fun out of it. But I do very well understand how one might come to love photography. It is very enjoyable.

All the pictures are old, made in 2008, except the last one, which made last year. :)
