2 things.. first off, ^

- I've gotten about 12 episodes in.. and while the humor is decent and not a far step from One Piece.. some of the action leaves some to desire.. Keep in mind, I can only judge from a first impression>_> and thus I have no experience to say if things get better. I will say, humor alone, it surpasses One Piece<_< however there is one thing that gets on my nerves.. ever damn time they have to name out their attack along with a whole animation.. which kind of breaks the immersion. I'm fine with naming attacks.. One Piece by far seemed to pull stuff like that out of it's ass all the time.. but the fact remains that they blended the combat with the natural animation, only ever altering the atmosphere when seen as appropriate, such as with Zoro and his finishers or epic attacks

2nd
- Has anybody watched the anime watamote? From how my friend described it to me.. it's an anime comedy laced with dark humor with a rather relate-able protagonist. While normally I tend to avoid school setting animes.. there are but a few that can stand out and for good reason<_< But for a 12 episode series, I'm actually considering this

Watamote is great. If you're socially awkward, it's gonna hit close to home.

Huh, the way my friend described is "If your weird, you'll like this kind of weird too.." :wat:

Just finished the last of Watamote, along with a review for a comparison to the manga<_<

I have to say.. for an average anime.. I really liked it  it really aims strong for that mutual isolation that most can relate to. It really did good with being character driven and it's development.. but it lacked long term value as well as how little lessons or prior experience would affect the following episodes.. then again.. any improvements or social acceptance.. really wouldn't make it "Watamote" anymore.
Personally, I kind of wished it tried a little more to alternate from the manga strips it originated from. It really did well in making you care for the protagonist.. but it failed to meet it's full potential. Granted, as it is, I'll prefer it stay as a short anime rather than drag it out longer than it should. Still, one can only hope if they ever decide upon a 2nd season.. if they would turn this wonderful average anime into a great one.
:
Image
Funny thing.. alot of the series reminds me of my long time friend Nakelah :D all through Middle and the first half of High school, she was so sheltered away in her little own shell.. the unbearable shyness<_< the desire to socialize.. and the perverted love of 'romance' novels and anime.. Even I can relate a bit  still, I can honestly admit alot of aspects of the protagonist create a sense of attraction. Part of me just wants to go up and hug her :3 then again.. in real life I kind of make it a goal to bring a smile to such ppl

I highly recommend this anime, and the whole series is up on hulu for free. Even though it may not of made my list of top 10, it's certainly going to be one I'll look forward to rewatching.. something many animes can't boast

Any life in this thread?

I'm looking for some advice. I've been introducing a friend of mine to anime and I need some new things to show them.
I've re-watched Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Attack on Titan with them and they liked both but now I need to find something new.

My friend initially had a negative impression of anime in general, associating it with sexist tropes, gratuitous fan service and such so I'd rather avoid any anime leaning too much in that direction. I know an anime can be good despite sucky parts but in this case it's pretty much a deal breaker.

I haven't really watched all that much anime myself so I'm not really sure where to start in finding new, and good, stuff.

Code Geass, Scrapped Princess or Death Note might be good places to start.

I recommend Sword Art Online or Last Exile.

I recommend Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex if your friend in anyway likes Sci-Fi. There are 2 series and then a film called Solid State Society set after the series. I think the 2nd series is the best but still watch the first one and the film. It is Anime but it is also just a really good Sci-Fi series. It is a cyberpunk series about a covert counter terrorist task force working for the Japanese Government, future cops basically. I think the series is great and wholeheartedly recommend it. Also the Dub is top notch so there are no problems watching it in English.

^I have to back Kerr up on this recommendation. Ghost in the Shell is regarded as one of the best anime of all time, despite it's age.

Another classic that is another prime candidate is Cowboy Bebop<_< even to people who generally hate Dubs.. they cannot help but love this one. While I do say the first couple of episodes are slow.. it really kicks off near episode 6 or 5. Not to mention it features a movie that was made years after the series ended(Bc it's just that good).

Lastly.. one of my more personal recommendations would be Trigun. Certainly not as grand as the other two.. it still has stellar humor and fight scenes. While the later half of the series in my opinion wasn't as good.. it's movie certainly mended the flaws and was just a general joy.

All three are free on Hulu, animes and movies alike. And last I checked, should feature the complete Dubbed and Subbed

I've come across an anime called High School. Is it any good or just nothing but fan service? Just curious. Also, anything that is worth picking up? Was just browsing amazon and may create a list of things to get. Anime wise.

Mmm.. I can't say I've heard much about it.. but it falls within the otaku category.. and the countless 'high school' themed animes

Ok. What is it with Anime and high school girls in skimpy outfits? I'm just curious as i know anime has a reputation for that kind of thing.

Idunno, man. I imagine it's a little something like this.

"Okay, so I've got this great idea for an anime about a girl who finds out she-"
"Does she have big boobs?"
"Excuse me, mr Boss, sir?"
"I asked if the main character has big jugs."
"Well, not really. Here, I drew some concept art. Anyway, she goes on a quest of self discovery aft-"
"Bah, this design won't do at all! She needs a schoolgirl uniform."
"The story does not take place in a school, mr Boss."
"YOU don't take place in a school!
"There is no need for insults, mr Boss. And that one didn't make sense."
"Your mother didn't make any sense when I banged her last night."
".... Ugh. Fine, if Imake an anime about a big breasted high schooler, can I walk out on this trainwreck of a conversation?"
"Sweet. High school tits."

I've heard this Ghost in the Shell mentioned in several places so maybe I shall finally check it out. I much prefer subs over dubs though, somehow I find dubs to be distracting. Image

Trigun was one of the first animes I saw actually, along with the old Fullmetal Alchemist. I re-watched it quite recently on my own actually but I haven't watched the movie yet, but I see they have it on Netlfix so I'll get around to it eventually.

Most recently I've been watching Black Butler though and it's giving me intense flashbacks to my goth phase, it's awesome. Image

Two words.. otaku.. and fanservice... granted there is also female fanservice<_< but lets not get into that...

Honestly, I could go into a more detailed reason why so many animes want to draw the focus to high schooler's, and not the actually interesting elements (insert Durarara pun here), but jabbing aside, I will digress.. bc the truth is rather bleak and boring

I saw a high school anime called Angel Beats! a while back, it was quite good so I recommend it to you lot. Not sure if it counts as a regular high school anime though as it's kinda about guerilla warfare in the high school of the afterlife.

I liked Angel Beats, I watched it with my friends. It was interesting having a character speaking English in it. That would probably be weird if you were watching a dub of it, everyone speaking English but them not understanding the American speaking English.

So just got done watching an anime movie called: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Impressions? For a moderate anime flick, pretty damn good. My friend Chantel recommended to me, and I will do the same here :P So for a movie that goes about with a slice of life, this is one movie perfect for one of those date nights

I thought it was pretty good, it is worth watching.

Spoiler:
The way the future is described makes it sound like something terrible happened. He'd never seen the sky, never seen that many people before, the painting had been destroyed. Maybe something terrible didn't happen and he's just living in space. But if something did happen and he spent his entire life in a fallout shelter then being stuck in the early 21st century doesn't seem like the worst faith.

So two things: Of one of the anime reviewers I generally agree with, and does bring about his own style of view, he recently released a list of 25 animes that are recommended. Now I do agree with plenty of these, both via personal enjoyment or artistic admiration, and hell most of them I have watched in full  and I have yet to regret a damn one. But at the same time, you need to draw upon your own opinion and tastes, rather than blindly accept another's. So Lady's & Gentlemen, I present to you GRArkada 8) and may you find something that'll spark some interest  And lastly 2, ran out of anime to watch, or rather.. not motivated enough to watch new ones. So back to plan A :D Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. By far one of my top 5 animes thus far, paired up with such shows like Cowboy Bebop or Psycho Pass. Roughly about 50+ episodes if I do recall.. so.. 2 weeks worth if I let it last, maybe 1 week if I have nothing else.

I really can't recomend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex enough.

@Beta: It has been a while since I've seen it but Ergo Proxy was pretty decent. It has problems (pacing can be a bit slow for example) but I'd say it is probably worth watching. It watched it with the English dub and had no problems with said dub. It is a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk series that I would ruin if I gave too much away. The whole thing is 23 half hour episodes.

So, I finally sat down to watch Kill La Kill.

Definitely not disappointed.

Also watched Summer Wars for, like, the 6th time. I might go as far to say that it's my favorite movie.
