If I'm gonna be honest here, I only finished a 3rd of the series >_> I stopped shortly after, much against my friend's plead (I only watched it bc she insisted so)

It's, alright, but just wasn't my jam and hardly worth all the hype. Then again, I'm not a big shojo fan <_< so are you surprised?

I can't really say that I am. I know multiple people who started it because they heard how great it was, and stopped after a few episodes because it wasn't their style anyway, and didn't live up to their expectations based on what they'd heard.

And, you know, as far as shojo goes, there are a lot of anime out there that are way better. So if you're not really into the genre in the first place, Yuri wouldn't be the first thing to come to mind, if I were recommending something.

I honestly don't know why it got so much hype. I mean, there wasn't anything particularly outstanding about it.

Are you honestly asking this?? After explaining BL in detail

But that's the thing. There is (in my opinion) much better BL out there. So surely all the hype couldn't have just been about that.

Let me just ask you this. Do you know why SAO got so much hype?

*Gets right up to Cass's face*

Bc it sure as hell wasn't for the plot =__=

(And no, I'm comparing Yuri to SAO. That would be a horribly unfair comparison)

Me trying to figure out why these shows get all the hype:

Ah, it's a fickle thing. Luckily, I'm so caught up in watching older anime that I normally manage to avoid being disappointed by hyped-up shows.

I enjoyed SAO
COME AT ME BRO

But yeah, no, it's far from perfect. I hate how creepy it gets in the later episodes (just like SAO2). Like, jesus, just give me the fantasy world and violence and drama and stuff. And no, the plot is not great. But it's still fun.

Well, I'm not saying that I hate SAO with a passion or anything. It just didn't deserve all the hype it got. And was... iffy at points.

SAO is bad. No two ways about it.

There's been worse. But I don't know, it's been so long ago now that I really don't remember much.

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the Gankutsuou op? It's so pretty.

Turns out that there is a Valkryia Chronicles Anime and that it was never brought over here.

Come on, Sega, use the remaster to justify a release in English or with English subs! Don't make me rely on Youtube in the future for it! Because, I will use fan subs as the only other option. :(

Is i think, it's called Un Panzer girls(?) any good? Having watched the Jimquisition and seeing that clip makes me think it is something i would like because of VC.

Sword Art Online, i've heard a lot of good things about it and will be something that I will give a chance. Though, if it turns out to be a waste of £40, I will be rather miffed.

Yo, Kerr, have you ever seen the series called Shinsekai Yori?

No, I've never heard of it. What's it about?

Personally I was thinking of starting Kill la Kill soon because I've heard good things about it.

I haven't seen it either, but from what I hear, it's a post-post apocalyptic series hinting at a magnitude of darker themes/mystery and a story writing that knows how to use ever second it has :wat: I know it's not scifi, but I figured I wouldn't have been too surprised had you seen it

Ah.. Kill la Kill.. The fan service overdrive sibling to Gurren Lagann. I mean, if you liked that >_> you would probably like this too. Tho to be frank, I never got that into it. The color and fast pace worked well, but idk, I'm not too big on that sort of story or genre. If I wanted mindless action with absurdity thru the roof.. I would just watch OPM again

Ah, Shinsekai Yori sounds really cool. I'll have to go look it up.

And it's interesting to hear that about Kill la Kill. I've heard good things, but from what you say, I don't think I'd like it. I mean, I dropped Gurren Lagann after 3 episodes.

I'm honestly thinking on saving Shinsekai for when there aren't any 'heavy' shows on my queue(I.e AoT) but I do look forward to it no less

Also.. My Little Monster.. Bc I can

You know that you have too many anime on your list when you go to put one on and notice that it's already there. I thought the idea for Shinsekai Yori sounded faintly familiar...

My Little Monster seems cute, I should add- oh, wait. It's there, too.

Me: Ghost in the Shell is an amazing science fiction show that explores various philosophical and sociological themes. The animation, cinematography and audio design is fantastic and it has the top notch dub. It has a great cast of characters who develop and we get to know over time, the Tachikomas being one of the most interesting looks at AI I've ever seen and the shows explores and variety of interesting plots but in both stand alone episodes and the overarching stories. When people call it 'mature' they don't mean it in the sense of oh it has a lot of blood and boobs but rather In that respect it could be considered similar to other great works of television such as The Wire in that the complex story, themes and concepts it explores are often times rather heavy in nature and isn't the sort of simpler (and I don't mean that in a derogatory way, simple and complex are both good) story that would appeal to kids.

I haven't seen Gurren Lagann either... Look, I'll watch Kill la Kill and then get back to you on what I think of it. A friend roped me into watching Highschool of the Dead when I was 16 so I can't conceive of a way it could be more fan-service heavy than that tripe.

On Kill la Kill: comparing its fanservice to Gurren Lagann is a bit much, I think. Whereas GL is just straight up shonen-wank (I quit like 2 episodes in) KLK is more like an affectionate parody of the magical girl genre as a whole. Everything in it is cranked up to eleven, and most things are done in a way that makes it pretty clear what they think of clothes having to disappear due to "magic". It's really really fun, and I can forgive it for anything weird it does (believe it or not the incest shipping has the fandom to blame for 100% of it, it's not in the actual anime. Except Satsuki's mother, who is weird and abhorrent anyway.).

Plus, canon gays.

No, the comparison I was getting at is how absolutely, bat [&@%!] crazily absurd the two can get.

But I mean.. You can't talk about Kill la Kill's absurdity without mentioning the fanservice.. Even if, ironically, it serves a legitimate purpose >_>

Still hell of alot better than Akame ga Kill. I mean.. Except for one scene in particular.. Damn.. So brutal.. (Dirk Strider would be proud)

Technically manga stuff.

I finally got around to visiting my local game store after hearing rumors of it getting anime & manga section. Turns out it is only manga. And is currently in a bunch of boxes in the basement (except for a very limited selection that's out on shelves). We looked and looked, but alas, the "F" boxes could not be found. No Fullmetal Alchemist, no FAKE. I did pick up volume 1 of Itazura Na Kiss, though (I watched the drama adaption a while ago and loved it), as well as volume 1 of Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei (it was on my list), so that's nice. I saw My Little Monster, too, but alas, volume 1 was gone.

In the same vein this is the best I've seen.

So, Evangelion worth watching? Cause I might check it out after Kill la Kill.

Also, yes, Evangelion is 1000% worth watching.

Well I'm very proud of you for staying up at night to watch Death Grips AMVs.

I think I will check it out then, it's a show I've heard a lot about (largely good, some less good) but never actually watched. It's just the 26 episode series and then End of Evangelion, right?
