As per Ghost Stories, I'm going to watch an episode as soon as I get the chance. Whether or not I like it and you should start questioning remains to be seen.

Also, is BL really that out there? I mean, it's shippable romances, occasional love triangle drama, cute characters, humour, a range of smuttiness, and your choice of serious plot lines or fluff. What's not to love?

I mean, you don't necessarily have to watch a whole episode of Ghost Stories to know whether you'd like it or not. Watch like a minute of one of the funny compilations. If you're cool with jokes that play on racial stereotypes, religion, sexual orientation, and sexuality in general, you're pretty much golden. Otherwise...? Might not be for you.

Guys, if you've managed to stay disillusioned thus far and still think I'm an innocent little being, don't open this tab. I have more to say about yaoi than I care to admit.

Okay, where shall we start? With the different types of BL, of course! There are two types (in my mind): Yaoi and Shounen-ai. I personally like to divide up Yaoi into three separate subsets, but we'll come to that later.

Yaoi - comes from the Japanese phrase "Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi", meaning "No peak, no fall, no meaning". And that's why I like to divide Yaoi into three different groups. Because while some yaoi is constant smut (and really verges on animated [&@%!]), there are some that actually have good storylines as well. Also, just a note: yaoi tends tame in anime when compared to the manga.

Warning: Some yaoi is really disturbing. Like, watch out. Apparently some people are quite into romances starring manipulative psycho boyfriends. I started one that seemed so cute, about this guy with OCD and a psychologist friend who offered to help him through it. *Spoiler Alert* The psychologist friend in question was just trying to get the guy to trust him, so that he could manipulate him. I got to "I want to corrupt you till you become as twisted as me." and noped out of that manga as fast as Shirotani should have noped out of that relationship.

Warning #2: Rape-ish stuff is actually surprisingly common in yaoi. Go figure.

So, without any further ado, the types of yaoi:

Yaoi #1: Sex sex sex. So much sex. Pretty much all it is. Like, there will be a little bit that explains why the two of them get together, and then it's just sex. Oh yeah, and by the end they're in love. I could name names. But it's not really my jam. Kinda doubt that it's yours. Moving on.

Yaoi #2: Less sex that Yaoi #1. But it's there. And it's the reason for the story. Like, every chapter inevitably ends in sex. This doesn't mean, however, that the story is no good (though it really just is fluff, in general). The stories can be really cute, the characters can be really cute, and I've read these just for the story before. Like Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi. I honestly couldn't care less about them sleeping together, but gosh darn it, Ritsu is going to say "I love you" to Takano's face eventually, and I'm too invested to give up now. Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica (they're sister series) are both on Crunchyroll. I read this series called Rutta to Kodama, too. It's super cute and has no rape-ish scenes and is all around a good time. It's only in manga form and not on Crunchyroll, though.

Yaoi #3: This is kind of the stuff that walks the shounen-ai/yaoi line. Like, their relationship actually doesn't revolve around sex, and they actually do stuff other than get jealous or self-conscious or whatever, but it's not so tame as Shounen-ai. Love Stage!! is on Crunchyroll. Note: while the anime is yaoi #3, if I remember correctly the manga is yaoi #2.

And that's that. On to shounen-ai!

This is the kind of stuff that focuses on the relationship. Like, maybe there will be some kissing, nothing much more. There's probably some sort of story going on besides their relationship (though not necessarily). Yuri! On Ice and No. 6 are both on Crunchyroll. I realize that I have a lot less to say on the subject on shounen-ai. Oh well.

Ahahaha. Now there's a 100% original joke that I've never heard before. And if you're taking Yuri away, I'll just take Victor for myself. He's too cute. The second incarnation of Tamaki-Senpai. It's great.

But anyway, the show overall. I liked it; it was perfect for binging on snowdays. I'd say that I'm not quite so enamoured with it as people I know (I've got one friend who's drawn multiple Yurio fanarts), but it was good while it lasted. And it's short enough that I'd be up for rewatching it, if I'm ever in the mood for some cute romance and pretty music (without those hard-hitting feels that come with YLIA). So, I don't know, it was enjoyable, but not super-duper-one-of-my-favourite-shojo good.

The characters were cute, too. Except Christophe. Ew ew ew. Get that man off the ice! And JJ was a tiny bit annoying ("He owns the world/And all the beauties in his hands" great song, JJ :roll:

).

One thing that bugged me just a bit was how many times you had to watch the same skating scenes over and over again. And I know why it's like that, and it's not that I don't like figure skating, it's just that they weren't particularly well-animated, and it's not like they changed a little (except for the failures or "I couldn't do this jump and now I can!" improvements) every time, so the first 3 times for each were probably enough. Then they could have used the extra time for character stuff. But maybe that's just me. And it wasn't enough to make me not like the show or anything.
