The first time I saw Citizen Kane was many years ago, and while I liked it, I certainly wouldn't have considered it among my all time favourites. Recently, though, I revisited it and thought it was absolutely incredible. It's just so insightful. Here is this enormously wealthy, powerful man, but underneath it all he's more scared and alone than anyone else. He both loves himself and hates himself at the same time. He spends all this money trying to fill the void. On things, on people. He throws extravagant parties hoping for friends and respect in return. He buys his wife, Susan, expensive gifts, but they mean nothing because the money means nothing. She analyses it perfectly, "You never really gave me anything that belongs to you, that you care about. You never gave me anything in your whole life. You just tried to buy me into giving you something." He never loved Susan, in that he never admired her. He never intended to give her anything. What he saw in her was someone who he thought would be so impressed by his wealth and status that she would love him without him having to love her in return. He later finds himself feeling embarrassed for marrying a "nobody", and so, with his considerable wealth and influence, he tries to turn her into a "somebody". It all comes crashing down in the end and even on his death bed, the best he can do is blame it on a childhood toy. Of course it wasn't the toy, but the situation he was in when he had it. Doubt he realised that though. Sums him up perfectly. Yeah, incredible film.

The Prestige is my favorite, too. I love the symbolism and the overlapping structure. I've noticed or thought about something new almost every viewing.

Well that's mean.

I also have something of a guilty pleasure for all of those bad SyFy channel movies, though some of them used to be pretty good back in the day. I don't think they were SciFi originals, but I really like some of the old mini-series like Merlin and the Odyssey, which I bought on DVD recently.

And if they count, the Red Vs Blue series. I know its technically a series, but the DVD's show them as movies, so I guess it works both ways.

Haha. I thought Blade Runner was pretty average. Haven't seen Aliens, but I didn't like Alien.

Nope. I like Aliens and Blade Runner. Well Final Cut Blade Runner anyway, haven't seen the other cuts. But it is pretty good. And Aliens is Aliens, who doesn't love it? That film's great.

2001 is one of the best films ever, no discussion.

Yes, discussion. The film isn't somehow objectively good.

I think it's pretty evident that it's a good movie, as far as filmmaking goes. That doesn't mean you have to like it. Anyhow, I'm making my list right now.

Yeah, it's not a movie to watch one time and say that you understand everything that happened. And it's fun to watch it again with people who never watched it just to see their expressions and see who guess first what's happening.

ANYWAY, my favorites as of today in reverse order:

Hidden:

I suggest that everyone who hasn't seen catches up and burns a few hundred brain cells with it.

Hidden:

AKA 'Fighter in the Wind', AKA "watch this movie if you love Asian martial arts flicks". Or just watch it anyway. 'Cause it's great.

Hidden:

The best Pixar movie. Couldn't find the image without a watermark, unfortunately.

Hidden:

This is one of the few musicals that I like. And I like it a lot.

My two favorite Japanese films.

I actually didn't like the book at all.

Hidden:

HELLO DAVE

The image is a little huge, but I imagine Hitchcock would've liked that.

And finally, my favorite of all time:

Leon the Professional for the phillisters that don't know.

There are a lot of movies which I love to watch, but my favorite most is "Parking 2". It gives you the message how you may fight against the criminals and crimes. How can we save and prevent ourselves from such disastrous moments.

@Moeboid

Well, now that you mention it, Most Valuable Primate was probably better than Space Buddies, so maybe not 100% serious. But you can't expect me to pick my favorite movies with perfect accuracy when there are so many buddy comedies about animals who play sports to choose from.

John Waters is absolutely delightful. He's by far my favorite perverted gay film director, and I say that in all seriousness. What other director could hang out with big fat dogpoo-eating drag queens AND flaunt a completely unironic appreciation for the work of Justin Bieber?! I don't care who you are, that's pretty cool right there. Pink Flamingos can be a bit much... it's cheaply shot, poorly edited, and ridiculous, so if you haven't been able to stomach the whole thing yet, no worries! If you're interested in Waters, I'd recommend starting out with Cry Baby; it's cleaner and more respectable than Flamingos, but it still dribbles with his warm, sticky, anarcho-camp charm. Hairspray, the other Waters film everyone watches and which no one will fault you for having in your collection (seriously, be careful who you invite over when you've got Pink Flamingos sitting on your shelf next to Space Buddies and Lazytown Season 2), that one wasn't bad either, but I found it to be a bit too self-affirming. It's to John Waters what Spider Man is to Sam Raimi; that can be a good thing, it's just not really my taste.

My favourite film is without a doubt Blade Runner. But I there are also other films I regard as 'my top 10'-worthy.
In no particular order: LOTR, Old Boy, No Country For Old Men, Drive, Sunshine, True Romance, Star Wars (original trilogy, of course).
There are probably others that do not spring to my mind at the moment.

Abel - No Country For Old Men was brilliant. I loved that movie. Easily the best Cohen Brothers film so far. If my own list was slightly longer, I might've included that one.

DorostheConqueror - Oh, it's not that I wasn't able to stomach it; I was just busy when my girlfriend was watching it. She called me in for the good bits. Strangely, I actually haven't seen Hairspray. The only other Waters film I've seen is Female Trouble. Quite liked that one too. Also, you never answered my other question...

I'm not actually going to do that. I put together a 100 list on IMDB before and it was so muddled and stupid that I'm not posting it here even though I have it open in another tab right now.

Haha. I'll make you a deal: If you do a top 100 films list, I'll do a top 100 albums list. Offer stands for anyone who wants to take me up on it.
