So I finally got around to watching Erased.. or at least most of it.. but... like.. mate..

That animation
That music
That feels
That.. everything

I wouldn't put it on my list for best anime of 2016, but damn well does it come close.. And god dammit that mother deserves a reward for best supporting character, get this girl an oscar!

And might I say the OP is certainly in the books for one of my top favorites. ED isnt tht bad either, I almost even get a nostalgic Inyuasha vibe from it. And to be purely honest.. there's not many animes with both the OP n ED being good to the point where you dont skip em >___<
OP Dub:

So I watched Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade at the weekend following Beta's recommendation and yeah, I rather enjoyed it. Going to start up Ghost In The Shell: Arise soonish.

I haven't seen Death Note since, I want to say, 2011, but I remember liking it. I would need to watch it again to give a more in depth opinion. But like everyone I thought the second half was a hell of a lot weaker than the first.

I watched the first 4 OVAs of Ghost In The Shell Arise today and now I'm facing something of a dilema. If I should watch the last two episodes of Arise and the 2015 film which wraps things up subbed or if I should wait for the dub to become available for both of them. What's worse is I know there was a dub made for the film but I don't think they even made one for those last two episodes yet, episodes which are set before the film.

I watch some things dubbed and other things subbed, it depends. But I don't really want to stop with the dub halfway through a series and switch to the sub.

I'm still waiting for the English dub of the Steins;Gate movie. Does anyone else like the English dub of Steins;Gate?

Ya, I understand where your coming from Kerr. You get so use to 'these are their voices' that anything else feels.. off :/ its that much more of a dilemma when both sub and dub are so good. Some shows I go out of my way to see in english due to voice acting(Trigun, Bebop, Mushishi, ect) while others I go for sub for the very same reason and not just for convenience(Psycho Pass, Devil is a Part Timer, ect) but there are a choice few(i.e shonen) that I do inevitably switch to sub for due to more episodes being aired.. it takes a while to readjust, but again its no biggy if neither form had outstanding/god aweful performance

Also.. Never knew it had a movie. Doesnt surprise me really. I will say tho, from somebody who has watched both subbed and dubbed.. I still dont know which I prefer with Steins:Gate.

Speakin of gates.. has anybody watched thee GATE. Ever wanted to watch a medieval fantasy army duke it out with a modern military? Let me tell you.. it is purely a slaughter.. and I love it

So I finished Gate. Gotta say, it was enjoyable. I wontlie and say it was masterpiece, nor that even scraps by the level of enjoyment mushishi or certain other animes grant. But on the plus side, it wasnt bad either.

Its take on the setting and such was rather unique, I mean, how often do you get to see a tank level a medieval army? And the voice acting was great. Animation was rather moderate to what you'll expect today >_> though I could very well notice the boost in preformance during the early major battles, and when on the subject of explosives, bullets, and magic. Sadly, overall, the story seemed to suffer midway and it seemed to lose track of itself. Granted, there never was much story, rather exploration an development, but none the less.. filler is filler.

The one thing that sort of has me split is with the main character. I've never been a fan to animes that bring in bland, OP protagonist with the excuse(he's good bc he just is) or with harems that essentially boil down to cardboard cut out casts.. This was not the case :wat:

The protagonist is indeed good at his skills, but then again he's from the Japanese military. He's no ace within his JSDF squad, that is sure(even if he is clever/lucky), but it all balances out with his lazy attitude. The JSDF supporting cast were pretty well rounded, even if I wished they got mor spotlight. Other supporting cast brought their own dynamics to the mix. My only gripe being.. the overbearing spotlight on the female cast around the protagonist. Hence, harem <_< Heck, even mid way it seemed to have even grown.. with no real excuse as to why. At least it did some justice by not falling into that pit.. and relatively kept the fanservice isolated

The show really was its best for the large fights and tense moments. I personally wish they bring it back for another season, and hopefully expand more on it's stronger aspects instead of filler or bland tropes. No more weak endings.. please

Figured I might as well touch up on this. So while I may be terribly behind on alot of my shonen(don't judge me, they have way too many episodes!) but I decided to brief up on a bit of Fairy Tail

First off, while I'm not a particular fan to shonens, preferring more structured n quality anime in general, even I can fall prey to their popularity. One such being Fairy Tail, which in my opinion, is riddled with more flaws than One Piece or Naruto(I'm not even going to mention Bleach.. [&@%!]). However there are times when it does shine, especially with some of its more interesting characters

So if I may say.. the season 22/prequel/ova rightfully named Fairy Tail Zero.. oh my.. Can I have more? ;-; Forget the current series, I want this to be its own thing. The origin of Mavis and the founding of the Guild, its far smaller cast of characters yet delightful development. How it can touch up on some darker or deep emotions. I mean rewatching some of those episodes after the major spoiler.. I.. I can't >___< Heck, had this continued it would been nice to see them earn their name within an actual war
Spoiler:
Seriously, Major Spoiler:
I still can't believe Zera was dead throughout all those episodes ;-; it makes so much sense now.. why nobody else reacted to her or acknowledged her presence. To find out that she was an illusion all alone, to find out Mavis really was all alone all those years... I cannot unsee that moment in Episode 1.. it just adds a whole new level of feels ;-;

"Do you think we could be friends?..."

X'(
Regardless, for a shonen, this was a pleasure. Its odd for me to not even once to have skipped the OP, and for a shonen? Thats sonething. Sadly, the chorus doesnt live up to the first moments or ending beats

I've started Steins; Gate, only about five episodes in but I'm liking it so far. It's about time travel. Also the Japanese version has people speaking English in it which is always great. Although the best example of that was TK in Angel Beats. Kiss you!

Steins;Gate is one of my favorite anime. If anyone is interested in watching it, it's on YouTube. English subtitles only.

DB Super has failed to live up to its name for a while now, but the new Future Trunks arc is turning out really decently. I grew up with DB back in the long ago time of dialup internet and bootleg VHS anime, so it feels good to actually have something good to look forward to with this series.

So I finished Steins;Gate and the film which serves as an epilogue. I'm sucker for a good time travel/alternate universes story even if I dislike when time is like fate and more or less forces something to happen no matter what you do. But I do wonder what the visual novel would be like because you would have level of interactivity, if I'd have liked it more or less. Anyway I liked it.

I've yet to watch the later half of Steins:Gate nor the movie(never knew it existed). Speaking of shows with movies I ought to finish.. Madoka Magica :wat: I've only seen clips, but I hear its great. I'm always a sucker for cheery happy shows turned dark

I love Madoka Magica! I heard it recommended a lot, and finally watched it. I did not expect to like a magic girl anime so much. It's definitely in my top ten. It's pretty short. Only has 12 episodes, then the movies. The first two movies are recaps of the show, the last one, Rebellion, should be watched after the show.

Also finished watching Prison School. It's got to be the funniest anime I've seen.

Prison school..... Isn't that the one full of blatant fan service and perversion?

Yes. The only other ecchi anime I watched was Monster Musume, and it had its charm, but didn't really make me laugh as much.

Musume??...
:
Image
Normally blatant fan service I tend to avoid, just not my taste especially when it ruins a show it has no business being in. It goes without saying it's own genre fairs no better with me. I can give a pass on Prison School just from what I've seen on promotion, even if it's comedy is good.. But Musume is just too far past the wierd & nopes.

I'm not dissin on them or anything, just being 100% honest with myself. I can deal with crude humor here or there, and I get it fan service can have it's uses... but I think we both can agree poor implementation of either can ruin a show, whether or not it's te focus or not.

Speaking of... The only ecchi/perverted comedy anime I enjoy is none other than desert punk. :wat: which looking back at it, is now rather tame now a days. I haven't really found many others that rival it in that shared genre in terms of quality sadly :/

On a recommendation from a friend I started watching One Punch Man, and I do have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It didn't take itself too seriouly and I really enjoyed it after the first few episodes. Plus the badass theme didn't hurt.

OPM has certainly been MVP for the anime crowd as of late.. and no surprise there really.

Also.. I am soooo hyped for this coming anime season. Spring was great and all.. but there is a good line up, including a new Beserk.

But most importantly.. the premier of Mob Psycho 100. Yes, so much yes. Forget the animation, forget the studio, forget EVERYTHING.. just.. yes. All you need to know is who created the series prior to it's anime adaptation.. ONE :wat: yes, the very same guy responsible for One Punch Man. This is going to be [&@%!] amazing..

I'm keeping up to date on Boku no Hero Academia, Jojo's Bizarre adventure: Diamond is unbreakable and One piece so far. Catching up on Haikyuu! which is a... volleyball anime/manga pretty good actually.
Only gripe about JoJo is the names of the Stands, I get why but still WHYYY.

Because Araki is the worst human every born to this Earth, and also a disgusting unaging vampire.

I didn't like the art style switch for the Diamond is Unbreakable anime and I don't really like that arc anyway, so I don't watch it anymore. I've read up to halfway through JoJolion, though and the new Josuke is A+

Just finished Death Note, well, the manga variant. I absoLutely Loved the series. And while I wanted Light to win, I feLt the ending was fitting with how everything buiLt up. Gonna pick up the two side books shortLy.

Now I need to resume Trigun, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Beebop, and finish those.

I got far in Champloo and Bebop, but I forgot why I stopped. I think I went somewhere for the weekend, and lost routine.

Either way, I'll be starting all over when I find time to watch them again.

I see what you did there. :)

I'd like to read the manga at some point, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Just started an anime called Nana ('cause it's on Netflix), and I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'm pretty sure that episode 6 was just episode 1 with some extra scenes put in. :wat:

I need the help of some of you anime people. I have a friend who thinks that I should start watching Naruto, but there are a lot of episodes and I don't really want to get into it unless it's really good. Has anyone here watched it?
