Are riddles allowed? If so:

A man lives on the twelfth floor of a building. Every morning he rides the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the building. Every day when he returns he presses the button on the elevator for the eighth floor and walks up to the twelfth from the eighth. This pattern only changes on days when it rains. When it rains he presses the button for the twelfth floor and gets off on the same floor his apartment is on.

Why is it this way?

I was going to use that one, but I didn't think it was allowed. I'll let someone else answer.

This person is short so he can't reach the 12th floor button. But when it rains, he reaches the button with his umbrella.

Yes, it is indeed very old; I remember solving something of the sort in primary school. :)

Here's a puzzle from me:
Spoiler:
Image

This picture shows an original type of desk calendar.
The numbers on the cubes' front sides are used to show the date. On each side of each of the two cubes, there is a number, from 0 to 9. By flipping the two cubes, you can make a combination of numbers to show any date from 01... to 31.
Which numbers are there on the cubes' hidden sides?

I'm afraid that's not the correct answer. I'd like to point out that you have to point out the hidden numbers on both the white cube and the black cube.

I think I have the correct answer.

Spoiler:
On the black cube, the numbers are 0,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9. On the white cubes, the numbers are 0,1,2,6,7,8 and 9. EDIT: I think this is the correct one. 6,7,8 and 9.

Does each single digit date have a 0 preceding it? If so the puzzle seems impossible to solve.

On the Black cube are the numbers 0, 3 and 9
White has 6, 7 ,8
The Black cube has the numbers typically at the start of a date.

Spoiler:
So far, I know for sure that each block has to have a 1 and a 2( for 11 and 22). Only one block needs a 3. Both will need 0(assuming single digit numbers are labeled as 01,02,03,etc.). So now you fill the rest of the numbers in as they don't matter which side they are on. But I made a graph to help out. It looked like this:

White Black
1 1
2 2
0 0
3 6
4 7
5 8

You might be wondering about the 9. The trick is turning the 6 upside down! Eureka! Go ahead and try it. Every date is present.
If you want to know what's missing just take away the numbers that were on the blocks from the list. Missing Black=0,6,7,8. Missing white=1,2,0. I pray to the nine divines that I'm right on this.

Almost forgot to put in in spoilers! DOH!

Nice work, TopHatKat. Might want to put your solution in a spoiler box for people who don't want the answer immediately visible.

I was going to think of my own, but that would take too long and I don't want to waste your time. Instead, I'll use one I've heard in my past:

The rules are as follows:

1. Only three people can go swimming.
2. If George goes swimming, then one person cannot go swimming.
3. If Ann goes swimming, then Lisa will go swimming.
4. If Lisa goes swimming, then Larry will not go swimming.
5. If Larry goes swimming, then George will go swimming.
6. If Ann goes swimming, then one person cannot go swimming.

With that said, solve the question: Which three people can go swimming?

Shouldn't really be a butt-kicker, but just a fun one.

Spoiler:
Ann, Lisa and George will go swimming.
If Larry went, Lisa can't go (Lisa won't go with Larry), nor can Ann (as then Lisa would go). You can't get three people with Larry.

This seems right, unless I'm interpreting it incorrectly...
Spoiler:
I think it's George, Lisa and Ann:
1. Only three people can go swimming. - Got three
2. If George goes swimming, then one person cannot go swimming. - Larry
3. If Ann goes swimming, then Lisa will go swimming. - Lisa is swimming
4. If Lisa goes swimming, then Larry will not go swimming. - Larry is not swimming
5. If Larry goes swimming, then George will go swimming. - Larry is not swimming
6. If Ann goes swimming, then one person cannot go swimming. - Larry

Edit: Doh! Beaten by a few seconds :(

Congrats to Pingpat and Moeboid for getting the right answer. Pingpat will get the next turn in offering a puzzle. If I didn't have to be fair, I would have given the point to Musicman. I didn't think about that answer lol. Anyway, go ahead Ping pat!

I got this one in an interview last week:

You have three boxes containing fruit: one contains oranges, one contains pears and one contains both oranges and pears. Each box has a label indicating which fruit(s) it contains. However, all of the labels are incorrect. You don't know the contents of the boxes, but are allowed to pick one fruit from one box. With this fruit, you can correct all of the labels.
From which box to you pick a fruit?

I think this is it.
Spoiler:
You take a fruit from the box marked "Oranges and Pears". Since it is incorrectly marked, whichever fruit you pull out, that is the label that box gets. The other pure fruit labeled box is incorrect as well, so it must be the mixed fruit. You then apply the label from the real mixed box to the box you originally took the first label from.

If I'm right I'll stop answering in the thread to give more people a chance.

You're definitely right, so you'll have to stop answering because it'll be your puzzle next :p. See, my solution is just to post really hard puzzles haha. My second one took more than 12 hours to solve :)

That is correct! Took me a while to correctly interpret your last sentence.
