The dead man had no arthritis and was perfectly capable of committing suicide, but was mistakenly identified as his twin brother, who has arthritis.

The whole thing was a dream. The police officer woke up in a cold sweat realizing that the situation could never realistically happen.

The killer was a little person who is now hiding in the toilet?

Maybe the old man had that bullet lodged in his head for quite a while before he died... What if he had been wounded from this same gun but the bullet was not removable and so he had to live with that bullet in his head for some time.

I hope not too fresh. New theory is that the man converting the room did the deed. He had dug through the concrete to install the pipe for the toilet. Then killed the old man and locked him inside the room, exited through the hole and filled it in with concrete from the outside.

Brick would be a lot easier to do from the outside than concrete. So the killer tunneled to the room, brought the old man in and locked him there. Killed him and escaped through the tunnel replacing the brick from the outside after he left.

A ghost did it!

okay let me try an actual guess: The old man was murdered, and the person who did it was the person converting the room. the murderer locks the door and then kills the old man in the room and places the gun in his hand, but does this before the toiler pipe is fixed up, with a hole big enough for him leading into the sewers and the path getting larger as you go along. he gets into the pipe, and covers it up from the inside of the pipe, finishing the job. then escapes through the expansive sewers.

That was my entire point, the man has a hole prepared that is big enough for him from before he commits the crime, and fills it in during his escape through the pipes big hole, disguising it as the pipe itself. that was basically the entire point of what i just said.

but it must be wrong anyways.

The killer shoots the man with his own gun and wore gloves to avoid leaving prints. The door was open so the killer entered it and planted the gun to make it look like the man had commited sucide.

The man and the murderer were both in the room. The door is open since they both entered. Murderer kills man. Door is still open at this point. Then the murderer pulls of something that I do on a daily basis. Turns the lock while the door is closing. He spins the wheel and while it is going into its locked stage he quickly closes the door on the other side.
