TV has always been ambience for me. I never watch anything. If I wanna watch a tv show or a movie, Netflix.

Pointless is my favorite quiz show. But I hate how when they win on the final round they don't tell you all the answers, only when they lose. Playing along at home is a major appeal of a quiz show.

Sometimes I'll put the tv on for a bit of background noise/visuals too, but not actually watch it.

Yeah, I guess I do that too. I'm glad Challenge exists for that reason. But I'll also listen to podcasts or music. Eating dinner in silence, not something I'll typically do.

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown was a good idea. Countdown still works really well when it's merged with a comedy panel show. But is there a single UK comedy panel show (Qi, 8 out of 10 cats, Have I Got News For You, etc) that David Mitchell hasn't been on? The man's everywhere.

Beta writes and reads so many PMs, I'm convinced he just uses the forums as a cheap alternative to international texting. There are apps for that, you know.

Beta paragraphs, like, the typical length of my forum posts, especially in RPs

Hence why you always see me 'Composing Message' :wat: Beta's gotta take his time with this [&@%!]

I mainly use Facebook's Messenger when it comes to friends and family, cause we all use Facebook and it'll send an alert to your phone. But yeah, service leaves a lot to be desired, longer messages are a nightmare. The fact that they're almost certainly spying on us doesn't help either. Which I guess is the thing with messaging apps, you use what your social group uses. I'm sure Telegram is 100 times better but if the people I want to talk to don't use it, it's not going to happen.

Did you hear about the new Snapchat update where it shows where you are and have been to all your contacts? Websites/Apps have a lot of bad updates, but it's literally the worst one I've ever seen.

^I would of rated the whole Xbox DRM fiasco go be probably the worst. Oh wait.. They received consumer backlash and dialed their plans back (Then again, alot of software related things from Microsoft receive appropriate backlash, I wonder why? ). But ya, it is getting uncanny to how invasive apps and especially social media like FB get

I don't get this new thing where social sites think that everyone wants to know where everybody else is and what they're doing at all times, etc.
Is there no privacy anymore?
I have no interest in joining facebook. The app permissions alone put me right off.

Facebook isn't invasive. It merely knows what you want or assumes that is what you want and bypasses adblock to advertise stuff. No, facebook, i am not interested in ebay! No, i don't want to see a random cosplayer's page. Come on! That is not even remotely close. And no, that "RPG" is not the "Best" game ever. Stop sending me random MMO adverts! Stop the adverts!

Sorry, but that's blatantly untrue. Facebook knows where I work and live, even though I hadn't logged in for years. It keeps sending me photos of me that I never knew existed. They suggest I go to events where people I've met once and haven't added on Facebook are going.

@Mars: Your forgetting the fact that they actively keep record of your posts, comments, and general trends. Along with viewing time on individual posts(but really, just Ads & recommendations) and which ones you are browsing the longest so that they can adjust which ads are targeted to you.. And so they can sell that viewing data to various providers <_< That's basically why and how FB can be free yet so lucrative as a business.

I didn't forget that, I was just listing things that Facebook did when I wasn't even using it actively. For years!

Right. You're the product when it comes to Facebook -- all the personal information you give them. It all gets sold to advertisers. How do people think Zuckerberg made his billions?

What's worse is that Facebook will (try to) track you even if you've never signed up and never visited the site. All those little soshul meejia widgets on the websites you visit? All trackers. All there to see who visits the site and report back to daddy. Without your permission. Without you even knowing it.

And it's not just Facebook. Twitter, Google, Apple, Microsoft... They're all doing it. Milking you for everything you're worth.

Aarah wrote:

Nope. Zuckerberg, Page, Brin, et al. sold it all a long time ago.

To be fair, there is a fine line between what is worth the trade for a free service, and blatant greed or amoral business tactics(then again, most legit business tactics tend to value income over common ethics, but that's a different discussion) from the provider's end.

I mean even with Grocery markets or most services, customer data has monetary value. If selling anonymous info reduces the overall price of the actual goods, then that's a fair trade off. Can't they just sell the data and keep the same prices and profit more? Ya, they could, and in this market it's basically expected. Can they sell even more personal info without any consent with next to little liability? Sure thing, but now their also [&@%!]

Point being, there needs to a line drawn on what is acceptable by the consumer and what isn't that's how capitalism works. Ethics no longer apply if your target demographic can't give a damn... And as we already know, they don't. If you pander or dominate the market enough, nobody can stop you from being a [&@%!] product

Either laws of liability needs to step up their game, or the market needs to introduce a new product that kills off it's predecessor, whether for better or worse...

I cancelled my TV Licence like 2 or 3 years ago. tbh I haven't missed it at all.

I was being sarcastic with a joke. ;)

It's rather invasie and has spammed many things at me. Not even adblocker can prevent it from showing the ads. :(

The market for groceries is actually quite competitive

Facebook - mind you - could easily be seen as abusing it's dominant position as a social network to force [&@%!] data-control relationships on consumers. But then I don't think the average (millennial) consumer actually cares about their privacy being violated so whether it might be a social good to push Facebook toward a pay-per-use model (which is exactly what we would be doing in the long-run) isn't exactly unambigious here.

Kerr wrote:

Sometimes I really wonder how ideas like this can make it through so many executive controls and to the end-consumer.

I did hear rumours of Facetube a while back but can't recall where. If they did a pay per use model, it would kill it.
