THis is just a long shot but the insect ends up dying halfway through due to the book suffocating it. So 500 pages have holes in them.

I'm sure someone will get it soon enough. I'd rather we didn't have hints. :D

10 pages have holes in. Each volume consists of one continous hole in.

1000 pages. Your hint was a red herring.

999. It eats from the first page, meaning the first page it eats is the second page.

Spoiler:
I glanced at my own bookcase and realized that the first page of a book is on its left side. The volumes are arranged from left to right, so the insect doesn't actually touch the first and the last volume, save for two pages (the first of the first and the last of the last). Thus, my answer is 802 (800 +2).

It was a good riddle, aimed to test one's attentiveness. :D

Insert numbers from zero to ten into the circles on the diagram as shown below, so that the sum of all the numbers in the circles directly linked to the circle with a given number would equal the number in the right part of the equation (as seen in the list).
Example:

Solved!

Spoiler:

Ok, so you can actually solve the whole thing without trial and error. Here's how:
1. A total of 38 requires a minimum of five numbers, and since there's only one position with at least five "bubbles" leading to it, the number with a total of 38 (5, in this case) must go there.
2. With the 5 in that centre bubble, the total for the bottom right number is already known, since it connects only to that centre bubble. The total is 5, obviously, and the number with that total is 0.
3. With with the 0 accounted for, the remaining five numbers that connect to the middle bubble can only be 10, 9, 8, 7 and 4.
4. The bubble to the left of the 5, not connected to the 5, has two bubbles connecting to it, both of which are connected to the 5.
- Therefore, its total is the sum of two of the numbers that connect to the 5 (10, 9, 8, 7, 4).
- The only two totals that can be made with those numbers are 17 and 18.
- The numbers corresponding to those totals are 1 and 3.
- The bottom left number therefore has a total of 5 + (1 or 3) = 6 or 8
- The numbers that correspond to these totals are 9 (total = 6) and 4 (total = 8 )
- However, having a 4 in the bottom left bubble makes it impossible to produce the required total of 18 for the number above it (3).
- With a 9 in the bottom left bubble, the required total of 17 for the number above it (1) can be made by placing an 8 in the bubble located on the left side, two above the 9.
- Therefore, the bottom left bubble contains the number 9, the one above that contains a 1, and the one above that contains an 8.
5. The bubble to the right of the 5 must contain either a 10, 7 or 4 (the three numbers left that contribute to the total of 38 for the middle number).
- The totals for those numbers are 12, 23 and 8 respectively. The total is the sum of two numbers, one of which is known (5). The other is also either 10, 7 or 4 (again, the three numbers left that contribute to the total of 38 for the middle number).
- 5 + (10, 7 or 4) = 15, 12 or 9.
- 12 is the only total that matches up (it is the total for number 10).
- Therefore, 10 goes in the bubble to the right of the 5, and 7 goes above it (the number required to reach the total of 12).

The remaining numbers are easy :)

A quick one because I'm tired and want to go to bed soon, so hurry up and solve it :p

How many times does the Earth rotate around its own axis in a year? (rounded to the nearest 1/4 of a day, I guess)

Very Google-able, I know. Extra points for your ego if you don't have to Google it.

I've looked up the answer and confirmed with Moeboid, so I can say that those answers are also incorrect (he told me to take over while he slept).

Five men left church together as it began to rain. Four ran for shelter; the fifth, who didn't move, stayed dry. How?

Let us assume that in this alternate universes umbrellas were never invented and porch eaves fell out of style in the 1800s.
