I seem to have a peculiar problem.

Although Dastandard ggerfall installs OK, on DB, I can't get the in-app cursor - that is, I've got the Win cursor but not the big chunky one with which to play the game. This doesn't happen under XP!

Also, when trying to install the patch, DB falls out of the program with the suggestion there should be Boo folder, which is not present

There appears to be no problem under XP, as I've just about finished up the intro Pirates' dungeon. :?

'Boo folder'? The only thing that springs to mind is the 'BOOKS' folder. The patch might be corrupt, or... you could always try renaming BOOKS to BOO and see what happens. :)

I'm not sure about the cursor thing. Mouse settings in DOSBox?

For the mouse thing, download mouse . com - it's a filename in one word (this spam filter really makes things hard), it's the original MSDOS mouse driver. Run it before running the Daggerfall install/game.

As for the patch, download it again. If it still doesnt work reinstall DB and try again.

Do I put it in the game folder or separate?

You put the patch in the game folder before running it.

The mousedriver can be anywhere. You just run it every time you want the mouse to work in a game, before you start the game (to run it just type in mouse . com without the spaces when you are in the files directory). The driver will load and remain loaded until you exit DOSBox.

Also, I meant Books and it's a folder I don't have.

I apologisr for abruptness but other attempts keep getting blocked.

The books folder is located in the DAGGER\arena2 folder on your Daggerfall CD. You can try copying the entire arena2 folder from your CD into your installed Daggerfall directory and then change the path and pathcd lines in the Z.cfg file (it's located in your Daggerfall directory, usually c:\DAGGER\ just open it with notepad):

Change the path and pathcd values to c:\dagger\arena2\ or whereever your Daggerfall install/arena2 folder is.

If you do these things you can be sure you have the BOOKS folder.

Also if you type fall.exe z.cfg in the Daggerfall directory (in DOSBox) you wont need the CD to play.

I'm not really sure if this will help you, but I advice you to try it if you havent.

Edit: The reason I mentioned the no-CD thing was because DOSBox seems to have problems reading your Daggerfall CD when you start the game (at least mine has, although installation is flawless). It is not meant to encourage illegal activites.

No, no joy. I've got the Arena2\Books directory but it still falls out on the 1st one , a BOK00009. Problem with immobile cursor remains as well (both in DB).

Your mouse still doesnt work with the mouse . com driver loaded? That is strange.

I'm afraid it seems I cant help you with this, it seems like something is corrupted on your CD. I cant be sure, as I'm no expert on this.

Good luck finding a solution though.

Did you perhaps turn mouse auto-locking off, or something? I have trouble believing DOSBox would fail to emulate a mouse properly...

I know how to fix the mouse problem, easily. I had the same problem, but I read some of the dosbox documentation, and found the solution to fix this.

Just press CTRL + F10, on the daggerfall title screen. This will instantly make the windows mouse cursor lock in place with your daggerfall cursor (the windows mouse cursor will dissapear, and you'll be able to move the daggerfall cursor).

You have to do this everytime you launch daggerfall on dosbox, but it works flawlessly. You'll need to have mouse auto-locking turned on, but as this is dosbox's default setting, you won't neeed to worry about this unless you changed it.
