Just checking to see if anyone else is still playing/enjoying this game.

I recently bought a new computer and decided to see if I could get Daggerfall running. I had had little success on my previous machine. After learning that you must run every program in Vista using the "as an Administrator" option, I finally succeeded in configuring DosBox correctly and made my way through Privateer's Hold last night.

My goal is to see what I can accomplish with a first level character, while leaving the possibility of leveling open for later in the game. The character is as follows:

Primary: Destruction (for mage guild), Long Blade (for Fighters Guild/Knights), Pick Pocketing
Major: Lockpicking, Dragonish (for Akatosh/Knights), Climbing
Minor: Jumping, 5 languages

The skills are configured so that I will not accidentally use them, though I will need to be careful on lockpicking and climbing. If I do decide to go up levels later, I have 3 primary, 2 major, and 1 minor skills that are easy to practice and therefore raise without training. The skills are also configured to give me the ability to join certain guilds immediately.

My special disadvantages are critical weaknesses to paralysis, poison, and diseases as well as forbidden materials for steel, silver, elven and mithral. My special advantages are x3 spell points, general regeneration, immunity to magic, and bonus to hit all four categories. The race is a female nord. With 16 HP per level, this leaves the difficulty dagger just a touch above the minimum.

I answered the begining questions so that my short blade skill was maxmized and I got an ebony dagger that I used to escape the Hold. My plan is to join the Mages Guild, make recall and open spells, steal some stuff, take a boat trip to Abibon-Gora, make practice spells, raise all spell schools except destruction into the 90s, become an archmage, summon Hermaeus Mora for the Oghma Infinium, join the Knights of the Wheel and become a paladin. Not sure what I will do after that, but if I can accomplish those goals as a first level character, I will be content.

If anyone else has a special class or approach to playing the game, I would love to hear about it.

Well for me, when I create a character, I like to use blunt weapons as Primary since swords are over-done. Plus, maces look cooler. They remind of me of Sauron's weapon.
But I rush through the creation process and then use DFhack to make everything maxed out.
That might sound boring to you and it is actually, now that I think about it.
