I was on a contract for the Dark Brotherhood to kill a renegade assassin, and the target dungeon was one of the teleporter type dungeons where different sectors are only connected by those red brick doorway teleporters. At first I thought this would be easier than other dungeon crawls because there were fewer places to get lost. I had been through every single room in the dungeon that I could reach, three times, but I could not find the quest target. I then noticed a teleporter blocked off by a bookcase in a flooded room, and I did find the torch switch that moved the bookcase, but that teleporter just took me back to the beginning of the sector I was currently exploring.

In the end, I got frustrated and decided to use the cheat to cycle through quest target locations (the [ and ] keys) and sure enough, one of them took me directly to the objective. I then explored the sector in which she was located, and there was no way in. There was a teleporter leading out, but it took me to the same sector as another teleporter that I had used several times.

Does this usually happen? Are there some times when a teleporter type dungeon forgets to connect a critical area to one of the destinations?

I've noticed before that my character has gotten stuck in "trap" rooms where a teleporter goes in but there's no way to teleport back out, but I confess I haven't seen one where there's a teleporter out but no way in. Keep in mind that teleporters needn't necessarily be those brick wall textures; they could be random objects in the dungeon that you have to click on. Without a rigorous search I couldn't tell you if the scenario you described is even possible. It's possible that it's possible (if that makes sense) because a lot of the dungeons are randomly generated, but I wouldn't think that would normally happen in practice.

You might try the map trick, which is where you look at your map and use it to check for hidden doorways; you'll be able to tell where they are because you can see the doorway behind the door even while it's closed. Other than that I can't help you.

Yeah, I'd been using the map for that very reason quite frequently. I've never heard of teleporters being random objects though, let alone found one that worked that way. What kinds of objects could also be teleporters?

I haven't been able to find a pattern, honestly. Floating skulls in the middle of corridors are popular. They could also be 2D sprites sitting on a table, an altar, I've had one where you had to sit on a throne to get it to teleport, it could be a [&@%!] box sitting on the floor. Just follow your adventure gamer instincts and click on everything (making sure that you save frequently, of course)

OK I didn't know that's what the floating skulls were for. I thought they were just decoration. The times I did try to interact with them, nothing happened, so I dismissed them as unimportant. :|
