When I finally get to the map cell of my destination, are there any clues or methods to follow to find the actual dungeon/town, etc?

Also, this is essentially my first time trying the main quest. I know that many parts of it are time dependent, but if you are on foot (or horse) you do get bored and go to random towns and dungeons... Are there usually good bits of time allowed for travel for main quest stuffs?

Yes you get a decent amount of time, but I seriously wouldn't do a no fast travel game unless you literally want to spend real life days pressing the forward key and little else. The world is like 62,000 square miles. It's HUGE. It's bigger than England. It would take you a looooooooooong time just to get through the earliest quests, more hours than you put into the other ES games combined.

It might seem cool, but I would really not try it.

I remember back in the day reading that if you tried to walk from the two furthest points that it would take 9 real world days, haha. Yeah I know it's stupid. But let's say a "limited fast-travel" game (haven't decided what that means) is there any way to find a destination once you're in the map cell?

I've tried this before. From my experiences with Arena and Daggerfall, I would say that it's actually impossible to reach other locations by just walking to them. I've been told that it's literally impossible to visit other places in Arena without fast travel, as the game won't load them. I think that Daggerfall will load locations that you manually visit, but it's just too large of a world, and life is too short to do it this way. Fast travel is truly necessary in the DOS-era games.

As for main quest time limits, they're usually more lenient with them. You get time to do other things, but since Daggerfall is so large, it's usually best to prioritize specific quests just to keep focused. Side quests are more punishing, with time limits sometimes being too small to possibly complete, and that's ignoring the huge number of bugs that can ruin the experience.

I can confirm this. I've wandered into a couple towns by chance. From my experience, though, there is no way to tell where anything actually lies in it's mile square... Actually now that I think about it. I'm suprised that no one has made a "condensed" version of the game. Well, I guess if I want it, I should start it. So new change of subject! Calling all successfal Daggerfall hackers!!
