Hi all --

I finally managed to complete the Hircine's Ring quest as a werewolf, and am now looking forward to all the fun stuff about being a lycanthrope with none of the bad.

Problem. Lycanthropy spell seems to have vanished from my spell book.

I can still change into a werewolf, by "Use"-ing the ring from my inventory screen. However, once I'm in beast form, I can no longer open the inventory to switch back. Additionally, the ring doesn't show in my list of available magic items to use from the main screen... so I appear to be stuck in beast form.

Anyone know of a way to restore the Lycanthropy spell to my spellbook? I suppose I could get cured, then go through the trouble of getting re-infected... but that seems like kind of a hassle. (Also, from a RP perspective, this was unintentional; I just happened to get bit by a werewolf unexpectedly and decided to play it out. Getting cured and then infected again would kind of break that.)

Open to any suggestions, including a way to hack/edit the savegame files if necessary. I honestly have no idea where it went -- I haven't seen it there since I got the ring, so I figured maybe I didn't need it any more. Or maybe there's another way to change back and forth that I just haven't figured out yet?

Any advice is appreciated! 8)

I've checked the official patch changelog and also unofficial quest fix descriptions, but none seem to mention your problem. I think you could try running fixsave on your saved game.

However, maybe this is how the artifact was intended to work?

I did try fixsave, it did not have any affect.

I was thinking it might be by design, but then I can't find the way to change back to normal from were-form. If I try to use a magic item, it does not appear in the list. If I try to access the inventory, it tells me, "You cannot use the inventory while shape changed."

So I'm baffled!

So far I've only found mentions in another forum of the fact that the Lycanthropy spell may somehow screw up the game - up to crashes - and that getting the ring solves this issue (apparently, by removing the need to use the spell).

Here's a video of a guy whose PC became a werewolf and he is trying to get the ring to fix that:

The guy did not lose the Lycanthropy spell when he picked the artifact, but he continued to use the spell from his spellbook, not the item itself, to transform into a werewolf and back.
