I died once as a Nord with a ebony dagger and shortblade was a secondary skill

Yeah I died like 3 times. It wasn't even that bad. I had a rogue, but I forget which race. I also had that ebony dagger.

Last time, custom class, Ebony dagger, no deaths!
The first time it took me like three attempts.

I think I only made it through once without dying... If only I could remember how.

Since 1996? A zillion.

Does that include falling through the void when sneaking upstairs? Or just being killed by a creature?

I've also done it with no deaths at all a zillion times. But it depends a lot on your class and what wandering monsters you get when you rest. I just started a Khajiit Merchant with Hand-to-Hand as his only weapon and got a Wraith when I rested.

I mostly play custom classes, but a standard Mage is one of the hardest.

LOL! That's pretty standard for a first character!

Daggerfall doesn't lead you by the hand like later TES games. It's can be very unforgiving!

It was the damn imp in that final room...

I died, like, 5 times on my first character.
Now that I know how to get out of the dungeon as quickly as possible, I only die once or twice every time. On average.

Twice from the rat in the first room until I found out how to attack. Then once more because my sword skill is 3%. Moving up the stairs now.

I died once and rage-quit. I couldn't figure out how to swing the ebony dagger!

several times when i first tried, I chose nightblade though which is a bad idea for a noob as no ebony dagger not to mention they're pretty squishy.

On this playthrough, when I'm finally really enjoying Daggerfall, I only died twice, so good times ahead!

Latest playthrough: once. I started with ebony dagger AND a steel breastplate! But I haven't played in a long time, so...

3 or more... but I was playing the game via my touch phone. I got sick of the dang imp, so I took my save file, and put it to rest save editor to give me not only all the good regenerations and perks, but gave myself a eleven longsword.
That starter dungeon is too hard. Lol
