I'm not quite sure if I understand how skills are increased in this game. After resting some skills are raised. Yet I haven't used them at all. My major, minor and primary skills on the other hand never seem to be raised. The wiki wasn't too helpful.

I think you sometimes use skills without realising, like backstabbing for example, since they're more passive skills than active ones. The skill level up system is almost the same as morrowind's though otherwise.

Come to think of it...all the skills that were raised were passive. But I've used my other skills quite a lot. Yet they don't seem to be increased. Well I haven't played very long yet so I'll just wait and see.

The more skilled you are in something the more you have to practice it to get it to raise... for example if I practice a magic skill that's misc and like lv 4 I only have to do so a few times before it raises. But the magic skill that's at 24 takes something like 30 or 40 goes with the practice spell before it goes up.

You should have at least one offensive skill in primary or major... a weapon skill maybe or a magic skill that you are using all the time... you should have those go up before leaving the starting dungeon due to you pretty much beating up on what is there.

Did you use the custom class character creator? if you did and gave your charioteer a bunch of advantages and not enough disadvantages you may have a harder time leveling. (did you note where the "skill dagger" was? )

No, I used a standard class for the character that I had at the time I made this post. I made a different one after that with a custom class but I understood the class creator and I'm fairly sure that my difficulty was a little below the norm. Maybe I just haven't been playing enough :P
