spellbook UI functions

Wed Jan 07, 2015 10:25 pm

Hello UESP Forum dwellers!

I have recently beaten Arena and moved on to Daggerfall. Since I played a Dunmer mage in TES:I, I'm going to go with a magic-based Character in the second instalment too.

However, there is a new spellbook UI present in Daggerfall that I don't fully understand. I have tried searching for some guide on the spellbook UI but I couldn't come up with anything complete, so I am asking here now.

When I open the spellbook ("cast") ... I think the default is backspace, the game presents this window to me:

Since I cannot post links, please open this imgur link: http://()i()imgur()com/F8ZiCpe.jpg

I guess they have this meaning:
  1. spellcost?!
  2. ?!
  3. cast mode?! (touch in this case)
  4. school?! (destruction in this case)
  5. maybe this button is active when the list is longer?!

I absolutely cannot figure out what the button labelled "2" in my screenshot does. It seems to rotate through different effects and maybe elements? Can someone give me some insight on what I am dealing with here?

Thanks for your answers!

Have a nice day, ThreePounds

Link broken.

You can select your own icon for spells, this is handy for spells like shield or spell reflection, that last a while.
The icon will be shown in the upper left corner when the spell is cast, only applies to spells cast on your self.

The spell type is one of the following:

Caster only, these are spells cast on your self, a heal, recall or resist magic fx.

Area around caster, these are sells that affect targets within a certain range around the caster, it could be damage, or banish spells.

Single target at range, these are spells that affect one target at range, like a force bolt.

Area at range, these are spells that explode on impact, affecting multiple targets, like ice storm or fire storm.

Using the spellmaker you could potentially, make a spell that does area at range heal, not that it would be very useful.

The spell element is either magic, poison, fire, cold or shock.

School as you say, is the skill the spell relies on, higher skill, lower magicka cost.

Thank you very much for your help. I am sure I will get along with the spellbook better now and in the future! Have a great day! :)

The link is not broken, I am just not allowed to post URL yet. Hopefully that fixes itself once I reach 10 posts.
