Cheatmode?

Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:43 pm

I was wondering if it is still possible to activate cheatmode on the dosbox version of Daggerfall. I read that you need to add CHEATMODE 1 to the z.cfg file, but I can't find it.

Yes, it is.

In your Daggerfall file there should be a couple of folders (at least for me there are), select C.harddisk then DAGGER, it should be right in there. I am using a Mac and a different DOS emulator altogether so mine is in a different place but the search function should turn it up I imagine.

When I downloaded the game recently it was just the base version so I had to patch it, but I am not sure if yours is updated or not and you need to have the 2.13 patch to run cheat mode, or else it won't work. The patch can be found here: http://www.uesp.net/file.shtml?dagger/files/dag213.exe

Drag the dag213.exe file into the same folder (DAGGER) and execute it with DOSBOX and it should patch the game for you. After that you can use cheat mode to your hearts content.

I'm not sure if it will work the same with me. I'm using the pre-configured version of Daggerfall on a PC running Windows 7. I did find a file called DAGGER, but I couldn't do anything with it. Thanks though. Does anyone have any ideas?

Okay, I found the z.cfg file, but I have no idea what to do. I typed in CHEATMODE 1 and nothing happened. Can somebody please tell me what I have to do.

If you put the code in right, the cheats should all work, they are listed here:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Che ... heat_Codes

I'm not sure if z.cfg is case sensitive or not, in my case it's all lower case letters so if it doesn't work try that. But assuming you have the latest patched version it should work.

Okay, I opened the z.cfg file and it already said CHEATMODE 0 at the bottom. I just changed the 0 to a 1 but nothing happened. Another problem is that it won't let me save the edit. It just tells me that I can't save to the Daggerfall folder, so the best I could do was save an edited copy of the z.cfg elsewhere and move it to the Daggerfall folder. But as I said, no luck. Is there something else I have to do, or am I just doing it wrong?

Only thing I can think of is that the file may be listed as Read Only, which means you'd just need to change permissions and it should accept the edit.

I've just read a thread by an Arena player, apparently if you're on Windows 7 or 8 and install the DOSBox version into the Program Files (x86) folder the OS may reject changes to files in that folder by users who do not have the Administrator level of authorization. If that is the case, just install the game elsewhere, DOSBox can run literally from anywhere.
