Multiple Installs of Daggerfall on one DOSBox

Mon Apr 22, 2013 2:45 am

Since I am doing some experimentation to extract info for the wiki, I prefer to have the TES games set up for multiple characters. In Arena I did this by creating sub-directories (such as c:\DOSGAMES\RWK for Redguard Warrior Knight) under c:\DOSGAMES and installing ARENA in each sub-directory.

So, now I come to Daggerfall, I read the instructions that came with the download from Bathesda, and instead of installing the game in C:\DOSGAMES I changed the destination folder to c:\DOSGAMES\RWW so it would extract next to the already existing \ARENA directory. It installed 'all' the files there (there was no DAG213.exe file to run there) ...

When I ran the program, by typing DAGGER on the command line, it starts to launch the gives the following error:

Code:
Daggerfall is now loading - please wait.

Daggerfall has detected the error 0.

Press RETURN TO quit...

And now DOSBox does not recognize the Enter Key as a Return Key and the DOS session is frozen at that point.

1) What is the proper procedure to create multiple installs of Daggerfall within DOSBox on one computer.

2) How do I escape or correct my current locked session, other than using Task Manager to kill the DOSBox session?

3) I know the happy answer is to install the daggerfallsetup.exe file from the wiwiland.net site ... but how do I configure that to create multiple installs on one computer?

Thansk in advance for your help

When you run DaggerfallSetup.exe it asks you where to install. Just point it to a different directory each time and the trick is done. Each installation comes with its own DosBox. It really _is_ the happy answer, I don't know why people still bother with Bethesda's release.
