On the site lots of references are made to the 'directory' in Daggerfall's files. I have no idea what it is, or where to start looking for it, and I'm not sure if it's even included in the file I downloaded (The first one in the Full Game area

I eventually found it, but now it won't let me edit any files in there, stating I don't have permission and need to contact the administrator. If someone could shed some light...

Damn it! just as I typed how to find it you beat me to it.
What operating system are you using? and what type of files are you trying to edit? Vista and Windows7 are rather annoying with permissions...

xD
Windows Vista.
I'm just trying to activate the cheat mode within the Z file. I tried to change it with Notepad, but it won't let me save it in the Daggerfall folder in Program Files.

Hmm. Copy it to another folder and take off read only. Edit it as you wish, copy it back to directory see if you can put it in and replace the existing one, if not I have no clue.

I had this problem to, I use Vista and couldn't edit my Morrowind.ini file. BUT, yes there is a but, all you got to do is copy and paste the file you want to edit into somewhere like your pictures folder. After that you should be able to edit the file (the one in pictures) and then switch that one with the one in your Arena directory.
Make sure that you make a copy of the original Arena file though! and put it somewhere safe so you can go back to it if something messes up.
Hope this helps somewhat.
