To summarise, "Don't call us, we'll call you."

Basically when a position opens we look around at who we think would make a good mod, and we to that person privately. We don't base it on whether or not you asked or who your friends are, etc. Also, asking us kind of makes us think you want it too much for the wrong reasons, so asking will only make us consider you less.

Basically just be helpful, considerate, etc and perhaps one day you'll be looked at. Otherwise it's beyond anyone's control.
