Obviously, we wouldn't include stupid bugs like the telepathic guards knowing which tomato you stole, or just totally ridiculous gameplay features like horse speed and durability being determined soley by their fur.

I really want to do this, but I don't want to run the thing, and I'm not sure Oathbreaker wants to either, so does anyone want to run it, 'cause it would be great fun if we did.

I figure this is as good a time as any to say... I failed miserably at coming up with anything to start us on. Maybe I didn't, but I'm too insecure about it to post anything. Sorry.

Ok, I'll come up with a story, hopefully by the end of the day. It'll be an adventure that characters can join in on, and I'll be driving most of the NPCs, and maybe an adventurer of my own. It'll be set in Cyrodiil about 10 years before the events of Oblivion, but I'll need some time to come up with a plot and do some lore research. :D

So I guess now would be a good time to start thinking up some characters :D

Out of curiosity; which sub-forum will the roleplay be in?

Perhaps General; since it is not strictly adhering to the game.

Well I still need to
- come up with a plot
- research the lore
- come up with characterizations for a pile of NPCs
- write it all out nicely

So, umm yeah, don't expect anything really soon!

How is this going to work; will there be stats and such for our characters?

Let's say I'm a total n00b (with two zeros nonetheless) at this and don't know HOW to make a character. I mean, how are we converting race skills/abilities and whatnot, or is that sort of thing not coming into play so much? And how will leveling and whatnot work?

Maybe we should have a short game so us idiots can sit back and watch and figure things out.

Indeed; a practice would seem best. I have no prior experience with such threads.

I agree with everything that has been said here.
We ought to have a short trial game, or at least a demonstration of the sort of thing that might happen, plus guidance on character creation

First of all, this is writing, not game mechanics, so don't worry too much about what the difference is between 40 strength and 50 strength. Real people don't have stats like that.

I've come up with a plot (which weka knows all about, since I was coming up with it in KoL chat, heh), and I'm going to post a new thread in General for people to join in.

Don't be intimidated by this! I'm sure you'll all figure out how it works once we get going.

I was just wondering, is the plot going to be lots of little quests and adventures, or one large one. If that's a bit confusing, I mean;

Type A:

One large quest, like the main quest in oblivion.

Type B:

Lots of little quests, like miscellaneous quests in oblivion. :D

Thanks.

For this first one, it'll be one quest, but not as involved as the main quest. There will be some twists in the plot, but nothing terribly complicated :D

No leveling, no real stats, this is fiction not a game that crunches numbers. You'll face challenges, but you'll solve them with creativity, not by stat comparisons.

Lol, I didn't pretend I'd signed up (even though Deandra told you all to think that, lol), I just found a nice little way to pop in out of nowhere while still having met the dude that put the quest together so that I wasn't totally unexpected. :D ...to him at least.

Epic double-post.

So, it's become quite clear that most of us are capable of roleplaying somewhat successfully. However, as Dogmantra is exemplifying now, our future roleplays should DEFINITELY be limited to around 5-6 people. However, that should also be the minimum. It'd be kind of dumb to create a topic that only 2 or 3 people are posting in.

And advice for any new roleplays that may start in the future... be more aware of the people and the journey and less focused on trying to catch up or speed along. The whole experience is more fun if you don't try to rush plot development with a bunch of one-liners about plans that aren't even ready to be made yet.

As quite a few people have pointed out in the Ring of Fire roleplay... don't do one-liners. As much as you possibly can, avoid them. There was a nice little quote from Deandra as well which read like this:
Quote:
If you're making a post that takes less than ten minutes to think about and write, you're probably not putting enough thought into it.

Oh, and from now on... if a thread has a rule about characters being killed or written off after a certain amount of time, don't post saying you've left the topic, it just clutters it needlessly. Just let the time pass and the situation will solve itself.
