Zenimax Online Interview - You ask the questions!

Mon Oct 29, 2012 10:55 pm

Members of UESPF, I have a very special proposition for you!

Zenimax Online has contacted Dave about a special fan interview, where the UESP community submits 12 questions and they will provide an answer for each one. This is a rare opportunity for you to ask anything you are curious about with the MMO! While the questions will also come from the wiki, Dave has agreed to allow the forums to collect some questions and propose them for Zenimax.

You can check out the current questions from our wiki editors, as well as some things Zenimax would prefer to keep a secret, by reading on the wiki's Community Portal page regarding the interview. Dave is going to make a special news announcement on the wiki's front page as well, so this is a great chance for us to show the wiki how awesome our community here is!

Please make sure your question is not already answered on the official site. We can all work together to decide which of our community's questions would be good to propose. We have about two weeks to turn around but I know the forums work faster than that! ;)

So tell me, UESPF: what are you curious about?

Sorry Abel - you didn't read the wiki page!
As a rough guide for topics they would be willing or unwilling to talk about at the moment:

Will the Gameplay be simalar to Guild Wars 1 in which everyone had their own instance of a PVE explorable area where no one outside of the person's party could enter while at the same time having seperate PVP area maps?

Modding has always been a big part of the Elder Scrolls series. Will this also be a part of Elder Scrolls: Online, or will it be simply impossible because the game is online?

Can you ask them what the Spec's are going to be. I'd say they'll release the information soon enough though so only ask if you don't have enough good questions. Can't be wasting one of our precious questions on something that could become public knowledge in a week can we ?

The classes, will they be rigid or able to mix? Like say you can over a time become master of two classes? Or will you be stuck with the one?

Darnit, that's what I wanted to ask about too. Hmm, I'll have to see if I can think of anything else.

How are the guilds going to work? Are they going to be similar to the system used in World of Warcraft? How is the system going to differ from other MMO's?

How much money is being diverted from the developments of Fallout 4 and TES 6?

I can answer for them:

None.

@Mars - didn't realise you worked for Zenimax. Can I be a character in the next Fallout?

As a follow up question.

If TESO is successful will Zenimax continue to support single player versions of TES/Fallout or will they will phase these out in favour of MMO's?

Will they use UDP or TCP, will the game be playable on a say... 500kb/sec connection? This affects many rural people and I think it would be very important to ask because of what purpose is there to ask of the gameplay itself when you are unable to play the gameplay to begin with.

By Avrons hairy legs, if you guys don't keep this topic to legitimate questions.....*insert random threat here*

Spoiler:
This isn't aimed at any 1 person in particular, but I've already had to delete at least 3 posts to keep this topic clean. This is a big deal to some people, so keep it tidy.

Does this mean that zenimax may introduce online multiplayer into subsequent console games eg. TES VI?

And How will the events of ESO affect the lore of games set later in the TES timeline eg Oblivion/skyrim? How are the writers ensuring that the players have freedom, but don't impinge on the lore of previous games (if that makes any sense)?

Zenimax Online is not Bethesda Softworks/Game Studios. It is a new company, and its funding won't interfere with Bethesda's.

They have the same parent company who funds both.

Will we learn more about the history of Tamriel in the 2nd and 1st eras? Can we expect in game books?

How are going to avoid damaging immersion in a multiplayer game?

I doubt they would start a project like this if they couldn't afford it.

Come on guys, Believe *just* warned you to stay on topic. So let's stick to questions here.

It's getting a tad off topic guys. Who does or who doesn't fund the game development etc is not the issue here. :)

How much freedom is going to be available? Will my Nord be able to travel solo to Hammerfell or Elswer? (Sorry for spelling) or will players be confined to their "Alliance" areas?

My question:

"Knowing how we are going to have classes, and we have let's say some kind of mage that doesn't, by default, use any swords or maces, but I want to pick a mace my enemy droped and use it for a while until my magicka replenishes. Will you be able do that? Or the game stick with the principle of mastery, where you can only use what your class is designed for?"

Sorry for any grammar error, if I get choosen repair any mistake please. English ins't my native language

Basically any question about the business behind the game is not going to be used. They're not going to answer it, so there is no reason to ask it. Also, I would avoid questions about game requirements. The game is still in alpha, so final requirements are going to be a wild guess. I have heard them comment that they want low-end rigs to be able to handle it, but asking for specifics isn't likely to get a meaningful reply.

Are people from one faction able to enter areas held by rival factions or other factions in general?

What is the maximum number of player characters you can create? Can you join multiple parties and take part in all aspects of the story?
