Great job, Hissien! :)

Fan art for TES V: Skyrim.
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, there was this crazy little girl (me) who thought it would be pretty funny to put a member of the Thalmor into an embarrassing situation, and thus she drew a silly little comic where the Dragonborn (an overwhelmingly friendly Redguard named Kiara) was distracting the great and terrible Ondolemar with her feminine charms while her buddy Ogmund the skald was making his escape.

Now, I decided to revisit this little episode. I was prompted by the following:

I was recently re-watching Disney's Aladdin movie, and one thing struck me like lightning. There is this single instance where Jafar is shown without his fabulous villainy turban (after purloining the lamp, tossing Aladdin down into the crumbling Cave of Wonders and then discovering that Abu has pickpocketed the lamp back from him)... And guess what: he is bald! So the section of my brain responsible for cross-overs was set in motion once again... Although I admit this is not as much as a cross-over, but rather a nod to one of my favourite Disney movies of all time (I used to know it by heart, along with Little Mermaid and Tangled, and I am not ashamed to admit it).

I was going to add Kiara's hand stroking his chin, but then I remembered how long it took me to draw a hand last time...Image

Wow Hissien, that drawing looking amazing.

And Norreon, that's a beautiful depiction of Kiara and Ondolemar.

Has anyone ever used Inktense pencils?
They're kinda like watercolor but turn to a more inkish color and are more vibrant when dried. Anyways, I bought some, and dunno what the hell I'm doing. So if anyone has had experience with watercolor or (even better) Inktense, don't hesitate to give me tips ._.

I used watercolor pencils before (not sure what kind), but watercolors are my specialty with paints. General watercolor tips I would give out include:

  • Paint in layers. Watercolors demand that you do this. Start with the lightest colors/layers first and gradually add more saturation/color.
  • If you want colors to stand alone, allow them to dry before applying another color atop. If you want to blend, do so when still wet.
  • Don't use a ton of water unless you want to ruin your paper/surface. Keep a paper towel nearby to dab up any excess water.
  • If you mess up, you can generally wash away a layer, but adhere to the above tip.

As long as you don't try to paint a watercolor in one sitting, you should be good. They typically need time to dry in between layers, otherwise the colors don't settle right and you get a big, wet, gobbly mess of runny stuff. ;) The pencils I used were more or less kind of the same, without really having to adhere so strictly to the layer rule, but you kind of got to get used to it as you go.

Watercolors in general are an awesome medium; definitely still the one I prefer today!

You mention using color in layers. Do you mean adding a first, light color, allowing it to dry, then penciling in more color and adding water once more?
Or just simply draw out the colors in layers first and then add the water lightest to darkest?

I should mention that Inktense, since the colors convert literally to ink, has extreme contrast differences when compared to watercolor. It doesn't seem possible to make Inktense wash out to a brighter color with any control over amount of water, so, that might be something to take into consideration.

I think you have more leeway with pencils, if I remember correctly. You can probably be less strict about layers with them. The ones I used were pretty much like having instant layers, I think. Again, those tips were primarily for actual watercolors, but if you keep them in mind and play with the pencils, you can probably find your way with them in no time. :D

I was recently recollecting Disney's Lady and the Tramp 2 movie, in particular a quotation from one of the characters, 'Buster's trouble is everybody's trouble'. Meanwhile, in Skyrim I initiated a dialogue with Asgeir Snow-Shod and the less favoured of the Laila Law Giver's sons, who both state that the case of the Stormcloaks is just an excuse for Ulfric furthering his personal interests... And yeah. Image

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Been a while since I checked the thread:

Hissien: Great work, love the tattoos!
Norroen: Looking over the thread, I can defnitely see you improving. Love the expressions on your latest work.

Fan art for TES V: Skyrim. Once again, my favourite duo. I kinda like shipping these two, and as long as there are others who like seeing what atrocities I have planned for them next, I'll never stop. Image

Now, every self-respecting melodramatic gushy romantic thingamabob should have something special in store for the first kiss scene, and given that I've recently played and replayed Dragon Age: Origins, I've been mulling over what this moment could be like for Ondolemar and Kiara. This is one of the preliminary versions.

Presumably, this little scene takes place during the fateful journey across Skyrim, when Ondolemar has to track down one of his agents who's apparently gone rogue, and hires one Kiara the redguard as a wilderness guide... Little does he know...Image
Lucien and Apple were added at the very last moment as an Easter Egg. I regret nothing.Image

Oh, and I didn't add those line thingies that usually link the speaker to his/her words in my comics, because I felt they would create unnecessary clutter, and the different fonts make it obvious who says what anyway (Comic Sans for Kiara, Book Antigua for Ondolemar).

So I've got back into painting lately. Here's a work in progress.

It Came From Walden Pond

The right cheek area still needs detail work (the cheek cleft is too strong), and I think I should up the contrast in and around the eyes to bring them out more. Also planning to add some zombie-gore effects, but knowing me I'll probably never go back to it after tonight.

Cross-over fan art between TES V: Skyrim and MegaMind.
I dunno, I think Ondolemar would look good in the Black Mamba...
The Talos worshippers are random, not based on any particular NPCs in game.
Yes, I know that the real problem of Markarth is the Silver Blood clan, not the Thalmor presence... I was just trollin'. Image

It's the part in between the upper and lower limits?

Just some cheap acrylics. I started experimenting with them last week, but as you can tell, I'm not too comfortable yet. I mostly work with pencils and digital stuff. Not that it's an excuse for flipping the highlights.

And Avron, y u surprise? I've posted some things before, yes?

They somehow eluded me, I must say.

I like acrylics; I paint with them as well. I just got high quality ones, and man, they certainly do change the whole idea of painting.

Hardening up some of the major lines and starting some detail work on the face. Critique is welcome.

Thanks. I've not been in the habit of putting my stuff online before; it usually winds up moldering in the bottom of a closet somewhere. But I just got started with acryclics, and I bought a new scanner, so what the buck. Might as well make you guys suffer.

Two I did this morning.

Spoiler:

Acrylic study. Inspired by a friend, who's in the process of publishing a book of Native American tales about the Great Turtle. Planning on doing a proper version later, with Mikey fighting the Snake on a sunset beach a la one of those old Samurai films.

Spoiler:

Quick sketch done while waiting for the acryclic to dry. As you can see, I'm a lot more comfortable with pencil than with paint.

Wow, lots of art to catch up on!

Doros: Nice work! The figurative drawing shows a lot of skill. I've done some work in acrylics myself. Hope you stick with it!
