Hello everyone! It's me again, the lass who has constant modding difficulties.

So today, I am preparing to install Living Cities of Vvardenfell. But I'm going to do it right this time! I hope!

So if someone would please, please give me a walkthrough to add this mod to my game with no slip-ups. Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry it's taken SO long to reply. I usually post in the non-modding Morrowind forum, and only read your post there today. It's been locked by Caz, who has helpfully provided a link here.

I don't use LCV myself, but I followed your link to the LCV web page and I can see WHY you're having trouble! The Installation section just says, "Standard mod installation." Not exactly helpful, is it? I downloaded LCV 03-13.ZIP, opened it and there's NO Readme file included. The Docs folder DOES contains a copy of the LCV web page, but that was useless, wasn't it? Oh dear.

I'm amazed that no one else has answered this, since most everyone who's ever installed a lot of mods knows the "Standard mod installation" method inside out. Here it is in brief:-

Installation

1. Open the ZIP file and look at the root level contents.
2. If you see ESM/ESP files, select EVERYTHING then drag and drop them onto your Morrowind\Data Files folder. Now go to 4.
3. If you see a Data Files folder, select EVERYTHING then drag and drop them onto your Morrowind folder.
4. Installation complete!

Activation

1. Run the Morrowind Launcher.
2. Click Data Files.
3. Activate the new ESM/ESP file(s) and click OK.

When you start Morrowind, it will now load the new mod.

Thanks H8Ball, I'll try that now.

Finger's crossed! <holds breath>

:( I tried it, but the houses won't lock at night, and an NPC who was in the Lucky Lockup at 11 PM was in there at 9 AM. :?: What to do...

Doors Not Locking

Check in the Morrowind Launcher to verify that NPC LCV Locks.esp is active. If it isn't, activate it so Morrowind loads it and doors are scheduled.

If that doesn't work, maybe there's a conflict with another mod that attaches scripts to doors? To resolve this, try setting the Modified dates/times for LCV's three ESP files so they load AFTER all your other mods and in the order 1. LCV Schedule Markers.esp, 2. NPC LCV Schedules 03.esp, 3. NPC LCV Locks.esp. If doors now lock OK, you have a mod conflict.

Lucky Lockup NPC

There are a few possibilities I can think of, off-hand:-

- NPC LCV Schedules 03.esp isn't active. Check in Morrowind Launcher.

- Not all NPC's have schedules? Non-scheduled NPC's will just stand around as normal.

- LCV hasn't yet had time to activate ALL of its NPC schedules. You may have to allow a few game days to roll by before schedules "settle down" into a steady routine.

- NPC's are ONLY moved when you're NOT in the same cell (so they don't suddenly disappear right in front of you). Try leaving then returning again.

- Schedules may have some life-like randomness to them, so NPC's don't move at the same times every day. We all sleep in or have a late night sometimes, so why not in Morrowind?

- One or more bugs in LCV's scripts might leave certain NPC's "stuck" partway through their schedules.

- The NPC is still there at 9am due to an all night boozing session? Possibly SO sozzled that they can stand up OK but don't dare walk in case they run out of legs?

Hope this helps.

I activated both of the ESP files, so dat's not the problemo.

Probably just my presence contaminates the mods...

I'll wait for a few game days to go by, thanks.

Two ESP files? Hmm... LCV has three ESP files! Make sure all three are activated and loading in the correct order, as described in my last post. I hope this corrects things for you.

Re. Running out of legs. That was actually based on me in my late teens, when I DID run out of legs a few times! I'd feel perfectly sober sitting still but, as soon as I tried to walk, it was two steps and WHAM! Mind you, this was a LONG time ago. I'm 47 now and have learned the most important lesson about moderation. Drink for flavour, NOT for effect. I NEVER get drunk now.

Heh. Ready for a good laugh? Years of sober observation have revealed some common but "unusual" drunk walks, which I've given names to:-

Dressage (like a horse crossing its legs to walk sideways)
Step-Aerobics (lifting feet to knee level to avoid tripping on uneven paving stones)
Oscillating (one leg forward, same leg back, repeat ad infinitum)
Circling Lilliput Airport (Oscillating with one step longer than the other so they're going in a tiny circle)
Horizontal Skydiving (constantly toppling forward and running to keep up)
Horizontal Mountaineering (crawling and having difficulty with kerbs)
Wall-Rolling (great fun on an isolated building, round and round they go!)

But the oddest means of drunk locomotion I ever saw (and only once) was a guy making his way home in the sitting position, hands jammed deep in his jacket pockets and repeatedly digging his heels in to pull himself forward six inches at a time. Hilarious! The "Bottom Wiping Dog"!

Hahah! That brightened my modless day a bit.

I did activate all of them, but I'm going to check again.

Thanks for your help.

I'm always glad to oblige with a bit of good humour to ease the stress of a problem. One thing we jokingly ask badly hung over people in my part of the world is, "Did you walk home on your eyebrows?" I suppose that qualifies as the ULTIMATE drunk walk if anyone is ever daft enough to attempt it!

If you've followed my post about making sure LCV loads last and its three ESP files are loaded in the right order, LCV should be working properly. Just as a reminder, the three ESP files should be ordered as follows:-

1. LCV Schedule Markers.esp
2. NPC LCV Schedules 03.esp
3. NPC LCV Locks.esp

Note: File 1 MUST load before file 2. It doesn't matter about file 3, so I've placed it last as it's the obvious logical place for it.

A potential problem I've noticed with LCV is that files 1 and 2 have Modified dates of 01/08/2001 (1st August, 2001), earlier even than Morrowind.esm! This places them FIRST in the ESP load order. File 3 has a Modified date of 10/07/2003 (10th July, 2003) which places it in an UNKNOWN position in the ESP load order. There's a strong potential for a classic "Mod Conflict" situation here! ANY mod that loads after LCV might change something that LCV has already changed, overriding LCV's changes. LCV will most likely not work properly given that files 1 and 2 load first and file 3 loads at an unknown point!

To ensure LCV's changes aren't overridden and it DOES work properly, all we have to do is make sure LCV loads last rather than first. I'd suggest doing this by setting the Modified dates/times for the three files as follows:-

1. 01/01/2020 00:01:00
2. 01/01/2020 00:02:00
3. 01/01/2020 00:03:00

The dates are identical (so the files will group together when sorted by Modified date/time). The times then dictate the order in which Morrowind will load the files. I've used year 2020 since you're highly unlikely to have any mods dated in the future, so these files WILL be last in the load order. If you don't like using 2020, check your mods by sorting your Morrowind\Data Files folder by the Modified column, look for the latest dated ESP file and set LCV's ESP file Modified dates sometime after that. Leave the times as above to keep LCV's ESP load order unchanged.

Wrye Mash is best for setting up load order but, if you don't have it, ANY utility that can change a file's Modified date/time will do. I found three such utilities (all Freeware) at this site. Unfortunately, the best of the three (eXpress Timestamp Toucher) has NO download link, but I found a copy here.

Hope this helps.

It is also not entirely out of the question, that the mod has many gliches in it. I give mad props to anyone who releases a huge mod without several updates and revisions to fix the occasional glich... Just a possibility.

After I downloaded LCV, I read up on it and found out that it's a difficult mod to remove without corrupting your savegames. That's why I've never bothered installing it. Shame. It's a great idea but comes at too great a risk.

The only safe way to use some mods (major world changes, gameplay rebalancing, etc) is to install them BEFORE starting a new game and ONLY remove them AFTER finishing that game.
