I am not sure what caused this to start happening. I take screenshots often, and recently, it seems that the "Count" or "Number" of the screenshots are being overwritten.
Example: If I start the game (PC of course), and play a while, take a few screenshots, and then save and quit, turn off my PC or not, come back later, start the game, take a few screenshots and quit for the day. I look at the screenshots, and the screenshots I took in my second session of playing have overwritten the screenshots from the first session.
I have tested this, and this is what is occuring. I went at changed the index number in the ini back to 1 and changed the default name to thumbshot, and tested again, and it is still happening...
Any ideas on a fix?
Screenshots bug? or Design?

If it starts rewriting old screenshots either it's an error or you've taken too much screenshots already (maybe 999?). Just change the old screenshots' names and it shouldn't be overwriting them.

Thanks for the replies...
I figured out what happened....
There are 2 lines in the ini located at
C:\Documents and Settings\yourprofilename\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion
iScreenShotIndex=12 (number of the last screenshot you took)
SScreenShotBaseName=Thumbshot (yours will say screenshot)
There is also another ini located at C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion
called Oblivion_default.ini
I looked at that one, and the iScreenShotIndex= was at 0
I think this was causing the number count to become reset each time I started the game, thus overwriting my previous screenshots.
All works fine now, since I set the 0 to 1. (not sure what caused the file to be changed....Basically I set the two files to match exactly on those two lines, started the game, and all was working fine.
Now the count is st 12, and I can start the game and take screenshots and it will continue to count up.
Another thing to mention, is that this will "seem" like it is broken, if you do not save right before you quit. The count remains saved from the last save game. So if you played an hour in the outdoors taking screenshots, and the game crashes, the ini will save the number count from the last time you saved, not the last screenshot number.
Another Edit: This happend again! hmmm, very strange..
After more looking at the Oblivion.ini located inC:\Documents and Settings\yournamehere\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion
I found a line called, bDisableDuplicateReferenceCheck=1
I set this to 0, and retested. This was ultimately the fix.
